Just use a standard Ethernet cable (Cat5). If you are going to hook up more than one thing to the modem (I'm assuming you are), you should get a router or a hub.

If you have 2 Ethernet cards installed in your computer, you could hook up your PS2 to one and hook up the other to the cable modem. I haven't tried this setup so I can't help you much with it. So in short, you can hook it up to either. Here's some links to routers/hubs (site only ships in the U.S.).

the PS2 hooks up wherever you get your "internet" from. so you could do it directly from the modem, yes. but you can also get a router/hub/switch and go from there.

That would be the best method (using a router). I have not tried plugging the PS2 directly to the extra LAN port in my system, it may work and just pick up an IP.

Although I do not have the PS2 adapter since I do not play much online games using the PS2, I will have to eventually buy it if I want to use the Hard Drive function.
