is there any speed difference between 7200rpm ide and sata?

I noticed that you can get WD drives now in both SATA and IDE interface, my only question is. Aren't they the exact same drives just with different wires? Since they are both 7200 RPM with 8mb buffer do they perform exactly the same? And if you had a choice which would you choose considering the $10 or so price difference.

Sata is slighty faster, sata's thoretical limit is 150mbps vs ide 133mbps but theres not much difference in real world performance..

Your still limited by the CD ROM' speed. Even a slow HD is faster than a fast CD ROM. I don't think it would install that fast.

SCSI itself isn't considerably faster than EIDE anymore. SCSI handles multiple requests a bit better, but otherwise there's not much advantage. The kick comes from SCSI drives simply having 10k and 15k drives on the high end. For a gaming machine or a simple productivity box, EIDE is fine.

you should try it....the actual file copying from the cd to the HD takes a jiffy, afterwards it runs on the HD....trust me, I just formated yesterday (tried to update the nforce chipset drivers to the mwarheads one....turns out the sw ide drivers corrupt the harddrive....)
