Re: Important things when buying new PC

amd>intel in power
amd>(2) in price...

personally i love socket a since i got this one PC with it, every other PC i have is intel...

personally i think an athlon xp 2500+ barton is a good CPU of choice, many people have it, good price, good power, and easily overclocked (if you want to...)

uhm you want 512MB...uniquly 1GB, like if you run 10 games at once or something pointless.... DDR333 is waht i run, and DDR400 is great, but gets pricy...getting ULTRA or CRUICIAL brand ram is also a good idea to do, too

for a mobo...make sure it has an nForce 2 CHIPSET, 8x agp, SOCKET A FOR AMD (unless you go nasty ass intel)

for a GFX card...id prolly go with the GF4 FX 5500-5900 range...nothing much less...a 5500 is only about 100 bucks, very good price for an excellent card...

giving different ideas that you want will really help, too...like...amount you wanna spend in cash i can understand =þ

Re: Important things when buying new PC

Just to note if you do go for the AXDA 2500+, better ask what the serial batch is, if ur lucky it is actually a 3200+ (I am getting mine soon since I am a technician at the shop I have an NF7-S with a 2500+ which actually auto detects to a 3200+ )

The other big hint is the heat sink, the batch contains the higher end heat sinks with the microfins.

If your going to go AMD go for a 2600+Xp since it's only 20 dollars more than a amd 2500+ and it is about 200mhz faster.Actually there is only a 3-15 dollars difference in 333 memory and 400mhz memory (Kingston brand memory are great). I didn't know that Geforce made an 5500 series (and if it's a typo howcome it's typed down twice ). I say go for ATI since their card have better 9x support (or so people say) and i remember looking at a Half Life 2 test and the geforce FX5900ultra 256mb was outpreformed by an Ati Radeon 9600pro card.

Re: Important things when buying new PC

i would say get an ATI card. i have a nvidia, yes. however, i would say get a 9600 pro or higher (or a 9500 if you like to overclock).

Re: Important things when buying new PC

hmmm checked zerocopy site but uhm was kinda a pain to choose parts.

i think il wait a year with new pc and just get a new Video card
VGA GeForce FX5200 128Mb AGP € 79,50
VGA ATI Radeon 9200 128Mb DDR € 72,50
Asus V9520 Magic T FX5200 128Mb AGP € 85,00

these cards any good ? cos the price seems nice ^^

btw if my mobo doesnt has 4x agp i wont be able to use a 8x agp video card right ?

Cos i dont know were i can see how much AGP my mobo has im sure my geforce 2 is 4x agp :/Any1 know how i can check it ?

dont get the FX5200. it sucks. its cheap.

you can still use an 8x card if your mobo supports up to 4x. my mobo only has 4x and therefore the video card automatically limits itself

http://www.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=...luxe&langs=01#

performance of the best i875 chipsets out there.

and

only $133. $115 if you don't need the extra IDE RAID

Re: Important things when buying new PC

I would suggest a A P4 2.4C and a Canterwood (i875) board. Combined with 1 GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM and a Radeon 9600/9700 Pro and you'll have one monster of a system.

Re: Important things when buying new PC

uh so is or isn't a i865 able to do what a i875 can do? What I mean is does the hyperpath enhanced asus and abit i865 mobos really help? BTW hushypushy is your mobo an i865? also is the onboard sound on these mobos good enough for most gaming?

Re: Important things when buying new PC

my mobo is a ASUS P4PE, im not sure what i8xx it is right now, i have forgotten....

the sound is good enough for gaming however i would recommend to get a soundblaster to save CPU cycles (and you will also get EAX, A3D, etc)
