Fake Athlon

The following photo is of a Genuine AMD XP2400+ Cpu, and a fake XP2400+ CPU.

The CPU on the left is fake, the right is genuine. This can be identified by the positioning of the text on the black label. On fake CPUs it is higher up towards the edge and isn't as white... on fake cpus the text has a browny/yellow tinge.

What the hell... remarking Athlons? That's crazy. I have heard of Pentiums being subject to remarking back in the day. And I guess even PII's and PIII's have had the treatment. But I didn't think it happened anymore.

so...what exactly are these fake boards? i remember back when they were taking 233 pIIs and saying they were 266s or other stuff.....

I'm guessing they're just giving you a cheaper processor that has had a fake serial and steping pasted to it... That really sucks.

It isn as white because its i the shadow of the other one! lol. I got a P4. Unless there's fake P4's floating around, I should be fine.
