Remember you get what you pay for so don't screw yourself over again by getting a cheapo power supply. Look for ones that have useful features and also take a look at the customer reviews, they can help you get a good PS. You might wanna take a look at this power supply, it outputs 330 watts and costs $55 (w/o shipping or tax). My dad has one in his comp and it has been running without any probs. If you are planning on buying any more stuff like cd/dvd rom drives or anything like that then you might consider getting a 350-380w power supply. That 330w should be plenty good though. I have the 430w version of that power supply and the voltages are pretty close to what it should be. Those models of power supplies are able to independently adjust the voltage for each line (3.3, +-5, +-12). Here's a pic of the voltages that I get on my comp.

Re: a new PSU

so this 60 dollar PSU would work like a charm on my comp, for certain?

if so...then ill just get this one because im tired of wasting time and money

EDIT: the PSU that was suggested in the above post is item# N82E16817103906 which is made by Antec (a name i know...)

im looking at a 350w by DynaPower...N82E16817162001

theres 20 bucks of a difference and the dynapower has 20 more watts...is the antec really worth spending the extra money for?

the one in my sig cost me 55. Very nice PSU i must say. It handles all my drives ( 5 ) and all the other crap i put in my case - I must say my molex connectors have grown alot from 1 to 2 adapters and fan "power sucker connecters" ( it what i call em ). Also, i would recommend AT LEAST 350w. Even if you never upgrade, it will help stabilty. Also, a better PSU = better overclocking because a better PSU can handle bigger voltages - thus stabler overclocks.

Re: a new PSU

I just bought a True550 from Antec and i'll get it tomorrow, Antec is a well known maker in the PSU market, they probably are the best, I already had a 300W PSU from them, damn good PSU. If you have the cash, get one from them !

Re: a new PSU

Buy Antec. Antec truepower is the most reliable, powerful, and feature rich power supply you can buy besides a PC Power and Cooling PSU - which is a custom modded & riced up Antec being sold for a bit more from a third party (AFAIK).

I have an Antec Truepower 550W and it holds up incredibly well - and I am an overclocker who overvolts everything like crazy.

HERE - I even found three of them for you; a 480W PSU for $85 is a good deal, and if you feel you don't need the power you can get an Antec 430W for $76, and if you want to get a top-end PSU they even have a 550W like mine for $118.

You need to scroll down a bit on the linked page I gave you - the three PSUs I mentioned are right beside each other.

Re: a new PSU

are you saying i need 430w-580w??????? holy **** man...

im using the things that are in my PRIMARY machien in my sig...cdrw/zip/hdd...these 3 devices....athlon xp 2500+ barton....GA 7N400-L...and two 256MB DDR PC2700/333MHz DIMMS...

i dont think id need that much...the asus mobo ran for two days, then the PSU raped it....and thats a 420w...so...

recap:

devices are listed above...
NOT overclocking
NOT adding anything in the future (maybe replacing, but not adding)
also...years ahead i might get an athlon xp 3000+

so far...this looks the best (with price/2 fans/wattage) personally...what do you think?? http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ion=17-103-913

this is cheaper...and 50 less watts...so...
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ion=17-103-906

36 bucks....prolly sucky but ill post it anyways..

Re: a new PSU

For having a 2500+, you should have a minimum of 400watts, and not a cheapo brand. and you might want to invest on a surge protector and a ups (uninterrupted power supply) to keep your comp from sags and spikes.

I'd check out that 420 watt PSU if I were you. There has to be something wrong with it if it fried two mother boards. I have a 420 watt in my case (it came with the case) and I haven't had one bit of problems with it. Runs everything just fine and doesn't flucuate at all. Honestly, it sounds to me like that PSU has a very serious problem.
sincerely,

Re: a new PSU

Having a large output power supply won't fry your stuff... The more power your supply gives out the better - regardless of whether or not you are using all the potential power or not. Really that 430 Watt I linked you to is everything you need.

In fact having a small, indadequate, power supply is what *can* actually harmful - random crashing, voltage fluctuations, and even corruption of volatile RAM and hardware failure.

You don't need a 550W PSU for your rig.. I had a P4 2.4Ghz, 35Gb Ultra-SCSI 160, my plexwriter combo, 5 PCI cards and 8 fans including two case fans, two PSU fans, two mini (like 80mm i think) fans for cooling the memory on my TI4600 as well as teh fan on the GPU itself. All that was running on an Antec Truepower 330W. I'd say that for machines today, 330/350W should be minimum but it's just gonna be overkill for most rigs to have a greater than 400W PSU unless you are an extreme overclocker or are running like 5 SCSI drives in your box .

Incidently, my Truepower PSU died...well sorta..the voltages where all still fine but the PSU fans and dedicated fan power for the temp control where dead..On that subject too...i had that PSU for a while and if there was any diff in noise between the Truepower PSU and the Generic 400W i got in it now, i couldn't detect it...so i'd say stay away from Truepower and save some cash .

Re: a new PSU

Getting a big PSU is a good idea for redundancy. It doesn't always use that much power, but it's preferable to the machine crashing randomly for no reason.

Re: a new PSU

>>why would a PSU crash the pc????

all what the computer does is manipulate electricity. if not enough power is supplied, that causes instability, maybe even kill the components themselves

The main advantage of such PSU's (I mean, made by well known brands) is the stability of voltages, on a cheap PSU, they can vary to quite some high extent, and end up frying a part of your PC, I higly recommend GKort to get a PSU from a good brand, not a 550, would be overkill for him, but at least 400W.
