A Question to Build a Comp

Well i have a cheap comp right now and i want to upgrade it.

i have P3 667mhz and 384mb of SDRAM

I think i'm gonna get:
P4 2.4-3.2ghz with HT tech
1gb of DDR
and a good ASUS mobo supports it

the question is how hard is it to upgrade these 3 things?

i know how to install the HD and CD-ROM

do i have to do anything with the new motherboard?
(like pins)

or just plug the wire into the motherboard

Re: A Question to Build a Comp

Make sure your Board and power supply are compatible. And also you should have a 300watt power supply at least.

Re: A Question to Build a Comp

Heatsinks are a Pain in the ass to take off so take out your motherboard before removing your processor/heatsink...and make sure everything fits...it's not that difficult...except you might want a different heatsink too...one that supports a 667Mhz might not support 3 Ghz

Re: A Question to Build a Comp

In most cases you just plug the new mb and it works, you do know how to install your pci, agp cards, memory right?

And why do you want to buy a heatsink? If you buy a new p4 then the heatsink will be provided as well.

Power supply is crucial, Katsuya is right, 300 W minimal.

And you might have problems with windows if you change your hardware.

Re: A Question to Build a Comp

Installing P4 computer isn't that difficult IMO. I myself [as AMD mania] just once build a system of P4 [for my friend]. It's the first time P4 system I ever build myself and I can do it smoothly . The only guide I need to read just attaching pin connector to mobo

Re: A Question to Build a Comp

When I went to DIT computers for Sophomore shadow day, I had to make a computer. I just attached everything, but then there were USB ports in the front. That was kinda tricky, but other than that, There wasnt a problem.

Re: A Question to Build a Comp

Just need to read a few words. Find out what pins do what. It should also be in small print on the mobo too.
