my new voodoo 5
I got my voodoo 5 5500! Hooray! Everything on the desktop is so SHARP with ClearType, witch is usually blurrish. It's cool! i love it. But i had to do MAJOR PAINFUL mods to my case: I had to take out a cathode tube
, move my hard drive, move my modem, move my Sound Blaster 128PCI, and completly reroute every cable. Phew. But the rewards are STUNNING! If you have onboard video ( unless it's a Nforce 2 or ATI RADEON IGP 9100 ), get a Voodoo 5 5500 from ebay. you'll notice the difference. You probably are tired of my blabbering.. |

you mean TODAYs TODAY games.Like D3D8 games or something
THPS 2 (DX7.1) for PC is fast on this at 640x480 with 2xAA ( which is NEAT on the School 2 level ) And yeah, i will use Glide64 0.42 and Lewpy's glide. Also, on a side note, are Amigamerlin 2.5 drivers better then the Voodoolizer drivers? It better be worth the 30-min download ( remember- i use dial-up ![]() )

Re: my new voodoo 5
The only Voodoo card i've owned was a Voodoo Banshee, which was really good at the time. Then eventually, I replaced it with an S3 Savage 4 Xtreme card....then, I switched ATi and have never left since.

Amigamerlin's driver is solid. I normally use that but for some strange reason im using a 3DHQ driver right now on my emu rig.
Got a voodoo 5 5500 AGP sitting spare in the cupboard, swapped my old GF2 GTS for it.

I still have fond memories of my Voodoo 5 (it truely was ahead of its time in terms of FSAA, and the blurring it did that made pc games look blurry actually looked good on PSX games), but I can't really see why anyone would want one nowadays unless you could get it really really cheap, since there are some pretty good value cards out there like the GFFX 5200, GF4 4200, and even the 8500. That are pretty much just as good for emulation but better for todays games.

Re: my new voodoo 5
Some people still like glide and the 2d/3d quality of the v5's.

Re: my new voodoo 5
And Catalyst Maker refuses to add Super Sampling to the ATi Windows drivers, so the Voodoo 5 _still_ has better image quality in games that it supports.
Which sucks, 'cause a Radeon 9700 could handle 8x RGSS in N64 and PSX games easily. I'm building a "new" box next week (hopefully) to chunk my Voodoo 5 in. I hope it goes well.

I still have one 9700 Pro, I wish ATi would add supersampling too. In newer games ATi's current multisampling would probably look better than the Voodoo 5's FSAA, since it removes jaggies just as well if not better, but doesn't blur textures. The main reason I want to see supersampling is because many old games exhibit graphical glitches when you use multisampling on them. Emulation also tends to look a bit better with a bit of blurring. A lot of people who only play new games don't seem to see the need for supersampling though
