Good laptop??

Hey everyone i need yall to help me buy a desktop replacement notebook. Here are my minimums:
256mbram
2.0 ghz
DVD+rw
20 gb hard drive
under $1200

Also i was on dell's site and made a custom laptop (but didnt order it!

you are gonna have a hard time getting the DVD+RW with under 1200..that drive alone is gonna be a couple hundred

Dont buy the celeron processor, most would agree it is simply castrated. Buy the "Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor,2.2GHz,14.1 XGA [add $150 or $5/month1]".

Then get XP Pro if you can,

well decide on XP pro or home depending on your needs. if you want to connect to a large network or are an advanced user, pick pro. otherwise pick home.

If I read your post correctly, you want a DVD+rw drive (that would be a DVD writer, yes?) in a Laptop for under $1200. All I can say is best of luck. I doubt you'll find a new Laptop w/a drive like that in it for $1200 or under. Maybe a used one or a refurbished one (if you'd settle for that, that is), but a new one???, highly doubtful.

My experience in trying to get a refurbished laptop is that they are over priced.

try hp. I have heard tho that they have bad customer service.

this has everything you want

edit: you will have to go customize the cheap one that is $699 and update the ram to 256, the dvd to the combo drive, and the os to xp pro (this os update is free from xp home) But it is running an xp-m2200 proc

Speed depends on the speed of the processer and not whether or not it is a laptop. Of course they're going to be more expensive but who wants to haul a desktop around with them?
