Demigod is Buying a Radeon 9500 Pro. Athlon XP 2000+ and a Via Kt400 chipset.

We knew it was only a matter of time..

Looks good. I didn't think that older system of his was going to last him till the Prescots and PCI express.

I' just surprised on why he got a KT400 instead of an NForce2.

I bet he got AMD because the lower end is cheap.

Kt400's are significantly cheaper than Nforce 2 chipsets. I use mine and love it.

I personally dont see much benefit to Nforce 2 Mobos Unless you use the Dual Channel DDR.

Nforce boards could be cheaper if they didnt come with all the intergrated solutions

One benefits of Nforce2 mobos is that they are the best overclocking Amd boards around.

I can almost assertively say that Demigod is not an OCer :P

There is nothing wrong with Via Kt400 boards. They offer substancially good performance for their price. And dependent on board can offer decent overclockability as well.

There is nothing wrong with VIA. My KT333 runs just fine. I think Demigod's choices had money in mind. He got good stuff at a cheap price. Best bang for the buck.

Good to hear! Even if AMD doesn't have the performance crown atm, its chips have always been a good price/performance deal. Support for AMD will bring down CPU prices for everyone!

I have a VIA KT400 board made by Gigabyte and I really like it. It is a good solid performer. As for AMD, I have been an AMD fan all the way from the begining. I currently have a Barton 3000 CPU and I am extremely satisfied w/it. I am sure that demigod will be very happy w/his new upgrade.

Just for the record, I am only upgrading to this system out of necessity. The Radeon 9500 Pro I got doesn't work too well with my current VIA Pentium 3 chipset so I'm forced to upgrade my board and since I cannot find any i815/Solano boards around I have decided to take the cheapest upgrade path available and get an AMD system. I was originally hoping for a P4 + Canterwood system but fate has forced my hand.

I may or may not get an nForce 2 board, depending on my funds. I'll probably get the KT400 board, as it's about $40 CAD cheaper where I live. I'll probably have to get some DDR RAM as well, to complement my board and CPU. It's going to be a week or two before I can dredge up the funds to pay for it so don't everybody hold their breath

This doesn't mean I'm an AMD follower now or anything. It'll take more than cheaper prices to convert me

. It's just I need a quick, cheap solution and AMD is it. I don't really care what chip I use, I just need something to run my new videocard on. This upgrade doesn't surprise me too much anyways. I've always been pro-Intel but have been more-or-less neutral towards AMD (I'm not anti-AMD just because I like Intel). I have no problems recommending an AMD system to people and in situations such as this I have no problem upgrading to them either

Heh, it's funny how ChrisRay and I went the same upgrade path. We both had the same problem when we got the Radeon 9500 Pro and decide to upgrade the same. I guess great minds think alike

I've got enough money to build me a top end Intel system, but my current system is good enough for now.

I am planning on getting a good Intel Centrino labtop though. Now where can I find one of those with a Fx5600 go.

Not all, really. I have enough money, the same condition as fivefeet8 and choose XP3000 which I think not a cheap CPU. I like intel but AMD 2600 XP (barton core) are now under $100 USD

that's a very hard deal to pass up, especially since I could use that money I save towards an Nforce2 and a ATi 9700 pro*

*yeah...9700 Ati is now clearly the card to go with now for it's price performance ~$220 USD though if I run out of funds I could always fall back on a nvidia 5600U
