Question Boot up hangs? Please help!

It seems after the installation of my 5800FX Video card my rig seems to hang on the BIOS splash screen (the screen showing the ASUS globe) - now to circimvent this I can do 1 of 2 things:

1. Hit delete and enter the Bios, hit F10 to save (nothing else, just that), restart the puter and alls well.

2. Press the reset switch on the computer itself then like above alls well.

*Things I noticed a bit odd:

1.The HD led is on full time (no blinking going on here) when I turn on the computer for the first time if its been off over night.

2. This generally happens only if the computer has been off for a long time. If and when i resart the computer for puposes of installing software and things of that nature, the computer does not hang on the splash screen once it reboots.

3. I see or hear no errors. But obviously somethings up or else my rig wouldnt hang on the ASUS splash screen.

This has never happened before prior to installing the video card. Please help.

Thanks - Vision

everything was powering up, right? You could hear your newly installed dustbuster? But it seems you have found a soulution, so you really don't need help
edit: you may want to enter the BIOS and turn off the splash screen and see if there are any errors.

Re: Boot up hangs? Please help!

Umm? I dont understand what your trying to say there nicedude? Yes everything is powering up fine. Also do you own a 5800? If you did you wouldnt think it sounds like a dustbuster at all, its actually relitively quite. Getting that outa the way... Now on to what I dont understand about your reply. I have yet to find a solution to the hanging on the splash screen, and upon firing up the PC the HD led is still lit up and with no activity of the HD happening what so ever - along with that the hang on the bios splash screen. I tried your quick fix idea - and no go - didnt work.

Could and would anyone any knowledge of this problem please help me resolve this issue?

Thanks - Vision

Re: Boot up hangs? Please help!

Have you try to change the first init display (or something similar like that) to AGP?

Re: Boot up hangs? Please help!

I have a question. I was previously running my system with an xp1900 in a k7sem mobo with a 40gig and a 60gig hdds. with this config my system was as stable as mortar. Now (the only difference is I am running my system on an Aopen ak77pro mobo with ddr ram) if I let it restart it gets to the loading windows screen and 95% of the time it freezes and either hangs or restarts going into a loop of restarts. If it goes from a cold start-up it runs quickly and regularly stabily. Any ideas why it hangs on a restart? Oh, when I installed my new mobo the only jumpers I installed correctly for the lights on my leet new case were the "restart" jumpers. everything else (when it comes to the case lights) is either in the wrong place or is in backwards or something (I think...they were too much hassle to me and the documentation wasn't clear on the installation of them) but I didn't think that would make a difference since it hasn't burnt up yet.

Re: Boot up hangs? Please help!

Unicron when you change the mb, do you reinstall windows or just boot it right away? It's a good idea to do a fresh install.

And it doesn't hurt to plug that jumpers of restart, power, hdd led, etc. Especially the speakers, it is very usefull for trouble shooting and if you turn it backwards or you are not sure just might as well plug it off to avoid problems.

And make sure that it is plug with the jumper tight, my restart cable is loose on the jumper once and it kept restarting the windows, i only recognize the problem after reinstalling windows twice, bleh.

Re: Boot up hangs? Please help!

Try going into the bios and check the voltages. How many watts is your power supply? Maybe your card/motherboard isn't getting enough power when you first turn on the computer.

sorry to confuse you. btw, alot of 5800 i've seen at stores have "dustbuster" cooling. A nickname i've given FX 5800's with that loud, bulky cooling system.
Oops
EDIT:

2. Press the reset switch on the computer itself then like above alls well.
That sounds like a solution to me.

Re: Boot up hangs? Please help!

Well its a pain in the @$$ to have to do that every time you cold start it. I would prefer a permanent solution, whereas those are temporary. I wonder how long the reset button would last with that situation and won't it put a load on the comp with hitting the reset button everytime you turn on the comp? But as I said before it couls be a power supply problem as they are known to cause weird problems like that sometimes.
