my monitor can't do 1280x960

my monitor is normally at 1152x864 but today i wanted to change it to 1280x960 and i got a lot of problems. for one, i cant display it in anything besides 60hz which makes the screen very flickery. also, the entire screen moves about an inch or two over on my monitor. i took a screenshot and it didnt show it so i edited it in paint so you can see. basically it squishes it together and then moves it to the right.

i have a GeForce FX5600 and a NEC FE771SB monitor....is there any way i can get 1280x 960 with the proper alignment of the screen and 75hz refresh?

Well the higher res you go the lower your refresh rate goes. Try going to your graphics properties>Refresh Rate Overrides> Then click on Override refrsh rates. So you can now have whatever hertz you choose to use and any resolution.

Re: my monitor can't do 1280x960

latest drivers help too...my monitor is always off right when i turn it off and it takes about 10 minutes for it to reallign itself...it kinda sucks...but yea...your monitor properties (size, position, ect) should fix your problem witht he thing bein off the screen

EDIT: well i just tested my Geforce4 4200 at that res and it can go up to 85Hz so i bet its just what your monitor supports...all i can really say...get the drivers for your minotr too...because now i can go up to 2048x1536 @ 60hz with no problem but i couldn't before i got the drivers...all i can reccomend

Re: my monitor can't do 1280x960

yeah i do razor blade, however its like 2 entire inches over, it's pretty far...i dont even want to try. also, im afraid of using the override as it might mess up my monitor.

by the way nightwolf, i forgot about monitor drivers, ive only been thinking of gfx card drivers the whole time.

EDIT: interestingly, when i switched back to 1152x864 it was at 60hz and the screen was all off center. when i moved it back to 75hz the screen centered itself perfectly

Re: my monitor can't do 1280x960

1280x960 is one of those "unusual" resolutions, try using 1280x1024 instead.

Re: my monitor can't do 1280x960

i updated the drivers and it's exactly as it was....by the way 1280x720 is the highest it will go at 75hz, but the screen is distorted

Re: my monitor can't do 1280x960

So you fixed it with moniter drivers?

Hi, each refresh rate in the same resolution will have different alignment, i knew this cause i use powerstrip to change my refresh rate on xp before refresh force came out.

I suggest you align that 1280x 960@60 Hz, there's no harm doing that.
I think monitors will remember the alignment of each refresh rate on each resolution, at least that's what my monitor seems to do (AOC 17 KLR)

Looks like you're out of luck:

From http://www.necmitsubishi.com/product...5&division=NEC

720 x 400 @ 70 to 120 Hz
640 x 480 @ 60 to 120 Hz
800 x 600 @ 60 to 110 Hz
832 x 624 @ 60 to 106 Hz
1024 x 768 @ 60 to 87 Hz
1152 x 870 @ 60 to 77 Hz
1280 x 1024 @ 60 to 66 Hz

Well, I'm having refresh rate problems, too. I run the windows desktop at 1024*768*32@85Hz. But, when I run certain games, including Star Trek Voyager: Eleite Force, and GTA Vice city, as well as a couple of others, the refresh rate gets set to 60Hz. And that gives me a sper-li-ting headache, especially in bright areas.

Does anybody know how to fix this? I'm running WinXP, and have a Matrox G400 graphics card.

Re: my monitor can't do 1280x960

roxor....your monitor probably just wont do those refresh rates (unless you play in 1024x768)

You probably need a 3rd-party refresh rate override program, roxor

I'm playing at 800*600 or 640*480!

Re: my monitor can't do 1280x960

yeah, but doesnt that delete the modes under it? so if you want to play 800x600 and you want it at 75 hz doesnt it disable to the ability to use 72, 70, 60? well that's what it says anyway, im afraid to use it....
