Geforce 3 cooling

i am planning on getting a Geforce 3 TI200 ( EDIT: i said this was a Ti500 before, my bad ) (just in my price range on eBay), but the ones i am looking at have just heatsinks and no fans. Would just a heatsink be OK for lots of games, ie: Crazy Taxi, ePSXe, 1964/PJ64, NWN (NWN rules d00ds )

Re: Geforce 3 cooling

Why won't you just get a 5200 Ultra or a Ti4200 ... the 5200U is about the same speed as a gf3 ti200, and cheaper...

Re: Geforce 3 cooling

my radeon 7000 came w/ only a heat sink and it ran just fine, but I don't know how much of a difference there is in the cards though

btw: i'm giving it away for a prize at the next screen shot competition if they hold it any time soon....wait to long and I'm giving to my friend.

The fan on my GF3 Ti 500 quit a long time ago. I pulled it out and left just the heatsink. The thing gets hotter than hell, but it's still alive. That being said, I'm sure a Ti 200 will be fine without a fan.

Re: Geforce 3 cooling

You could get one of those round (orb) heatsink & fan combos for only $7. Here are some links.

Thermaltake Blue Orb: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...82E16835116001

Thermaltake Crystal Orb: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...82E16835116003

According to customer reviews it looks like the blue orb is better but its your decision.

Re: Geforce 3 cooling

I had an Original Geforce 3 and my fan died. I put a Thermaltake Cryastal Orb on it, like n_w95482 mentioned, and it worked very well. Comes with the HSF and thermal grease.

i've hated newegg ever since they jiped me ( i ordered a Geforce 2 and got a TNT2 instead. ), and i have a new question:

Geforce 3 TI200 or 3DFX Voodoo 5 5500?

as in, which one would be better for my gaming needs ( i play everything from Commander Keen to Final Fantasy X ). price is not a issue (same price B-I-N on ebay)

Re: Geforce 3 cooling

GF3TI200

the voodoo 5 performs just as good as a gf2

Not to mention that voodoos don't officially support winxp. you'll need a 3rd party driver.

Re: Geforce 3 cooling

The Voodoo 5 is useless for today's PC games. The geForce can do emulation well (not as fast as the Voodoo in Glide mode, but it's still damn good) so if you are only getting one card, go for hte geforce 3

Re: Geforce 3 cooling

Or, in other case you have enough money, get both of them [Voodoo 5 5500 PCI]. V5 5500 PCI, I love that card .

Re: Geforce 3 cooling

I don't know about GF3Ti200, but from what I have, GF3Ti500 with 526MHz memory, it's surely hotter than my XP1600!

what about a Geforce 4 MX420/440/TI4200 PCI to go alongside a Voodoo 5 5500 AGP? I've also got alot of old Glide games that are not working with evoodoo or any other Glide wrapper, and i would like to play them.

Basically, i want to get them both, but i found a great deal on a voodoo 5 5500 AGP.. and, um.. bought it. BUT all the cards i wanted went way outta my price range on ebay ( ATI Radeon 8500, and a few Geforce 4s) and Newegg is pretty expensive (least to me, IMHO)
I'll be looking at cheaper places. And i'm interested in getting a dual-moniter card always
