Which DVD Burner?

Ok, for the past month or so I've been in the market for a DVD burner. For me DVD-R writing is a must, because of compatibility with the PS2, but it looks like DVD+R is winning the DVD format war. Just recently I found a Pioneer A05 on www.newegg.com for about 175 USD, this is a DVD-R only drive. My other option is the Sony DRU-500a that burns both DVD-R and DVD+R, sadly it is significantly more expensive; 283 USD.

What drive should I buy?

Ok first off, the whole DVD-R/PS2 thing is rubbish. My ps2 plays back my DVD+RW disks without any hesitation. The only format that can't be played back is DVD-RAM (basically 'cos its complete crap )

I agree that DVD+RW seems to be the recommened format, for the simple reason is that it's more suited to on the fly tv recorders IMHO. Personally I'd recommend the sony drive.

Yea, thats because you have a v7 or a v8 PS2. The other versions don't support DVD+R.

Other people I asked also said I should get the sony. Even though its more expensive I'm starting to lean in that direction.
