Post Input device for PS2 games.

I have no idea how that'll work.

From IGN:

Quote:
OnmiVision Eyes Toy
CameraPlay chipset to be used in Sony's PS2 EyeToy.

May 30, 2003 - We've seen it for three years at every game trade show on Earth and now it's finally a fully complete, marketable reality, the Sony Computer Entertainment EyeToy, a USB connectible camera that enables players to incorporate their movement into games via the PlayStation 2 without a controller. And the smart folks at OmniVision Technologies will provide their specialized CMOS CameraChip, called the CompanionChip, in the EyeToy to make it work.

"This is a significant design win for OmniVision," said John Lynch, VP sales and marketing. "We have been investing our engineering resources for the past 2 years to optimize a solution for SCEE and are extremely pleased to be selected as their camera technology provider."

OmniVision's chipset is incorporated with Sony's EyeToy, enabling the IPU (image processing unit) compatible video stream to run minimal CPU cycles to decode and playback the video at 60 frames per second. Logitech and Namtai work with Sony to manufacture the unusual USB camera/device.

OmniVision's chipsets are currently being supplied to web camera and contract manufacturers such as Logitech and Namtai who build the EyeToy USB Cameras for SCEE.

We'll have more on SCE' EyeToy soon.
Amazing to say the least.

nah... with the amount of money someone would need to purchase that product... you would wish that you were using a regular controller instead...

There is no mention of price tag as of now and I am pretty sure that it'll be relatively cheap. Of course not as cheap asthat great DS2, but still.

Otherwise, it'll be a failure. I am still not sure how it'll work though.

Hehe this idea has been knocking about since Carmack suggested "interesting uses for webcams in the future" during an interview about 3 years ago. Also I once heard there was a cheesy homebrew starwars game that tried this webcam idea for lightsaber battles.

I have seen facial expressions robots using webcams to detect your facial expressions and then the animation copies you...

There's a shooter game(forgot the name) that uses a camera.
like time crisis, instead of pushing the pedal, you move down(or to the sides) to get cover...........

Police precint or something.... Tokyo Police force? There is also a samurai game which records your movements with a mock blade, but owing to its 2 dimensional nature, the game is piss easy.

There is an arcade game of Tekken 3 at Universal Studios Orlando that records your movement like this.
