The "new" FX 5600 Ultra review

http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NDc4

Note I wouldn't normally link to a hardocp review as I think the editor and chief Kyle is a moron. But this review is done by brent so it's ok.

Shows the new 5600 Ultra to be quite a heap better than the old one. Also head to AF quality.

And Pretty much sending the 9600 Pro home

Hmm....nice overclock....kinda slow shaders....game performance ain't bad..
All in, not too bad a product from a company which screwed up every card they produced this year

No, I think the FX5800 did quite a good job at making noise.

As I said before, the Radeon 9500 Pro was too good for its own good.

It's good to see the GeForce FX series finally living up to expectations. It was a bumpy start but Nvidia seems to have smoothened things out.

I really like how easy NVidia made it for you to overclock the card.

I asked this before in another thread but the question didn't get answered: If I were to buy one of the new 5600's, how could I tell it's a new one and not an old one?

Every new 5600 Ultra is a new one. The Old ultra's never made it retail There are some 256 Megabit Non ultras out there however

I saw a review for leadtek quadro fx2000 it kick ati firegl x1 ass quite a margin, so I believe in real life gaming of future, nvidia is world leader, and it's a better card to have for emulation side and stuff, how many emulator out there that run as good as nvidia?

nah, nothing is too good for its own good. It was a good card but it made ATi get very little profit. And the 9600 is a cut corners card IMO.

>> It's good to see the GeForce FX series finally living up to expectations. It was a bumpy start but Nvidia seems to have smoothened things out

reminds you of the p4 doesn't it? It's only recently that p4 started to be better.

let's see a 5600Ultra is http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...alue=4638,3668 $225

while a 9600Pro is http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...alue=4808,3668 $183

and the regular 5600 is http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...alue=4637,3668 $152

i want to see just a regular benchmark comparing the 5600, 5600Ultra, and the 9600Pro. Hard to decide which videocard to get by the price/performance ratio. I still find it funny how the videocard becomes the bottleneck. truly, we need something faster...lmao.

That's what I'm saying, the card was too good for its price tag. And cutting corners is really the only way to cut costs for low- and mid-range products so the 9600 is what the 9500 should have been in the first place. The only reason ATI used the 9500 Pro was to steal some market share away from Nvidia in the mid-range section so there'd be a bigger market for the 9600 and future products from ATI. It seems to have worked so far, as ATI's popularity is up significantly although the battle for videocard supremacy is far from over.

Heh, gotta wonder what's up with these re-releases of videocards (first with the 9500 Pro, then with the 5600 Ultra). It's like a rebirth or something that unlocks the full potential of the card, kinda like Neo in The Matrix, who only discovered his real powers upon his rebirth. I guess this is why some people hold out for at least the second generation of a certain card, as it fixes most of the problems in the first incarnation.

Or you just wait until a card is almost discontinued and you know it's as good or better than the newer cards. Like me buying a 9500pro

actually, a bvetter comparing would be 5600 to the 9600pro and 5600ultra to 9500pro

Not really. 5600 Non Ultra is meant compete with the non pro 9600/9500 lines

and the 5600 Ultra is emant to compete with the 9500 Pro/9600 Pro line.

Have to compare price ratio for competence.

Just like the FX 5200 Ultra is kinda a joke for its price ratio. Too expensive to justify its cost/performance ratio IMO
