Nvidia never intended to release more than 100,000 of these cards. The FX 5800 is basically replaced with the 5,900, The Nv30 wasn't really the best thing Nvidia has ever made. So I imagine they don't really want to acknowledge it's existence

The fx5900 is what the 5800 should have been in the first place anyways. :eyes:

I think the 5800 owners should be able to ship their cards to NVidia and get 5900's just because of the screensaver bug.

You know that was fixed with a driver right?

Oh ok. Then why is the 5800 considered such a flop then? I thought it was just because of the screensaver bug.

Because of its lousy performance and sub-par features. Just look at the benchmark scores of the FX 5800 and the FX 5900 and you'll see why the 5800 was considered such a failure. Plus products aren't dismissed because of one little bug. As with so many products it's performance and features that determine success or failure.

It wasn't a little bug. The screensaver bug would cause the 5800 to overheat to the point that it could possibly fry the card.

It didn't fry the card. It got quite hot. Hot enough to get the machine to shut down, but it didn't fry chips (at least according to nVidia). Futher, it only happened in certain stressful 3d screensavers.
