Radeon 9100 uses 8500 GPU?

http://www.busitek2000.com/forms/bsttest/spark9100.html

Is it true? If so, what makes it different from the radeon 8500?

The 9100 IIRC is just a renamed 8500
They renamed it so as not to confuse consumers between the 9000 and the 8500 (the 8500 is better)

Yup, ATI renamed and re-released the Radeon 8500 as the Radeon 9100. Strangely enough the Radeon 9100 costs less than the 9000 Pro, while having twice as many transistors.

WTF?! Now I'm confused! How can the 8500 be better than the 9000? Is it like the gf4mx which isn't a gf4 at all?

Aye, but it was too expensive to produce IIRC.

It's possible that ATI didn't intend for this to happen. Often times, manufacturers attempt to make a cheaper version of a certain card by cutting in certain areas and adding in others. It usually doesn't turn out as planned. Take my Matrox Millenium G450 for instance. The Millenium G400 is actually better than it. It just goes to show that you can't assume a card is better simply by looking at the model number.

well i know...
but what i mean not looking by the number but by performance..

well as u know the 9000 just got 2 pipeline to cut the budget down...

well if 9100 is the 8500 (w/ 4 Pipeline) theoretically it has to be more expensive than 9000

Alot like the Geforce 4 ti 4800 se,

Sounds like it's all powerful, but it's really a a ti 4400 with 8x. Also the ti 4800 is better than it and the 4800 is just the 4600 with 8x AGP.

it's cheaper than a 9000 because ati had a lot of 8500 chipset's that were placed on stock so instead of letting it to waste they sold it at a new model no. the 9100

There is a big diff between ATI 8500 and 9100.... 9100 is a X8 AGP certified Chip...

If u think about this, the GF4TI 4800 is more powerful than a GF4ti4600, only cauze of the 8x interface? well, yeah if u are going to use the extra badwidht is more powerful

teh Second Edition (se) thingy? well... nvidia has been renaming his cards to this when are comparable to the original, but whit lower clock speeds (AFAIK) as the GF4mx440 and the GF4mx440-se

Actually it has 4 pipelines. ATI just removed one TMU from each pipe so it ends up being 4x1 instead of 4x2 on the Radeon 8500. The second TMU comes in handy in multi-texturing situations, although the difference isn't really that significant.

And you consider that a big difference? Let me assure you that there is practically no difference between AGP 4x and 8x. It's just a marketing gimmick, don't believe the hype.
