trouble with mobo
my mobo(on the sig) got sick 3weeks ago.it is still under warantee so i had it delivered back to the store. they pulled it out and had it delivered to the dealer. they gave me this asus a7n266-vm.not sure if thats the model but im sure it is nforce chip. any1 here owns a mobo with nforce? i have had so many prob with this mobo.
first is the sound, when im playing mp3's after some time the music gets uh, somewhat fast forward?i mean,it plays faster than normal.very irrittating. then during games, sounds will stop working after some time of playing(even in emu's). now,im trying to play enter the matrix but it is so slow.i thought it was my ram but my friend who only uses mx440 runs the game fine! i have a better cpu than him and not to mention better gfx card.but he has 256ram.(comp also reboots after some time when playing) i installed the drivers but still nothin. the sound is crap(well,my speaker is kinda poor also),but even why cheap yamaha(i gave it to my bro) does alot better job than this builtin sound. help pls...ill call the store later to see if my mobo is back.i really hate this..help ppl..thanks

I have an ASUSTeK A7N8X (this one has the nForce2 chipset). I can definitely agree with you that the sound is crap: in my case it stutters for a tenth of a second and there's ocassional static, but I think that it's just a driver issue. If it doesn't get fixed, I'll have to buy another soundcard.
I'm not sure how much the RAM in this case affects. Maybe your videocard and CPU don't compensate for the "lack" of RAM. As for your rebooting, are you sure it isn't because of high temperatures? That's what happened to me with my A7V333.

(Note, this is for Winxp home/pro)
Zukeft, I too had the same poor crap quality sound on my board, and fixed it by: http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3199 Put your computer into ACPI mode. (see attached) Change the driver manually to ACPI computer. Mute any ouputs you dont use in the SoundStorm control panel. Deselect digital output unless you have speakers that use dolby 5.1. Do not use environment effects. Update to the drivers seen in screenie. These ones work _PERFECT_ for me. I will attach the drivers in another post. I hope this works. I love my a7n8x, its a wonderful board, and when the sound works right, im sure you will have no quibbles about it ![]() EDIT: I cant attach the drivers in another post. Email me if you want them (570kb rar'd). These can also be found on the windows update page too. A good idea is to update to the Uber 1004 bios found on the asus nforcer board. EDIT2: it seems msupdate is being a retard, I cant download the drivers. (released april 8 - Posted may 14). Drop me an email anytime if interested.

I'm a bit paranoid: if I switch that from uniprocessor, that won't screw anything up, will it? And how stable is this fix (i.e. games won't crash I hope)?

Hrm.. it seems as if it's working for me too. Maybe I'm being a tad bit paranoid again, but I think my PC takes a few more seconds to boot, but as long as the sound works, that's ok. I've yet to try this with PC games (no static in PJ64 though!).

>Also disable the ATA jumper.

Nope, no SATA_EN1 for me. Must be only available on the DLX. Anyway, the new drivers work like a charm! Everything goes MUCH faster and that fear of the SW IDE driver is gone.
