Are these computer specs good?

Folks, if you haven't figured out why I have recently asked questions about DVD ROM drives, CD drives, and computer cases, I am assembling a computer for someone.

Here are the specs I have gathered:

Motherboard: ASUS P4C800 Deluxe
CPU: INTEL PENTIUM 4 P4 2.4GHZ
RAM: SAMSUNG 512MB PC3200 DDR400
Case: LIAN-LI
CD-ROM: ASUS 52X
CD-RW: PLEXTOR 48X/24X/48X
DVD-ROM: LITEON LTD163 16X DVD-ROM
Hard Drive: Western Digital 80 GB 7200 RPM
Video Card: ASUS V9280/TD GEFORCE4 TI4200
Floppy Drive: No-name

Any comments on these specs?

Any areas in where I can improve on?

i would say that they are pretty good, but that's just my stupid opinion

if the comp is going to be used for games, you could get a better video card, like a ti4600 or a radeon 9500 pro. here is the thread i made about the comp i plan on buying. i have the prices listed for each component so you can get a idea of what its gonna cost.

That is a pretty good comp:

1.) Is that a 2.4C processor? If not, then maybe you should get one

2.) Since that motherboard supports SATA in raid, why not get two SATA drives and use the raid function?

3.) Instead of a Ti4200 card, I would recommend a 9500/9600 Pro

what is the difference between a 2.4 processor and a 2.4C processor?

The 2.4C processor uses the 800fsb bus that the P4c800 mb supports. It also has HT enabled

which is much better than an ordianry 2.4ghz...

and i suggest getting a 9800 pro...

ok, so can it be considered the "barton" of the p4's?

people on here have said that plextor burners are very good, just that they cost more than others. so getting either a plextor or liteon burner is a good choice.

Not really. The previous Northwoods were more like the Barton, and even then the Northwoods were a more significant upgrade to the Willamette than the Barton ever was for the Thoroughbred.

It's about a $80 increase if I go for the ti4600 instead of the ti4200.

well in that case, either stick with the 4200 or get a radeon 9500pro/9600pro.

Why does he need a CD and DVD ROM? Just the DVD would do fine.

yeah, unless he wants to copy cd's directly. Mind you, he's getting a cd-writer. Drop the cd rom, it's not needed.
go for an ati card, DONT go nvidia. ATI's 9500pro is far supirior to any gf4ti card.

As you can see, many people would recommend the 9500 pro with that high caliber system of yours. Why don't you reconsider?

You got me interested now. I just check, the Geforce and Radeon almost comes to the same price.

Do you have a link for Geforce V9280 128M TI4200 vs. Radeon 9500 128MB report?

Edit: BTW, I just checked again Radeon 9500 pro 128MB is still about $20 more than the Geforce V9280.

you'll see that it really shows its muscle with FSAA being nearly 100% faster in some cases. So much faster that my friend sold his asus gf4ti 4200 and brought a 9500pro after seing my modded 9500.

that was a review of a beta-card before the 9500pro's were actually released.

fairs much better in this test, also remember that this is STILL with old drivers - the newer drivers have proved to be much faster still
