Is the GeForce FX 5200 worth the wait?

I'm planning to skip the GeForce 4 line entirely to wait for the FX line in my next video card upgrade from a *drumroll* GF2 MX200 Just read through the Anandtech review on it, and from my severely limited knowledge of video card technology I understand it outperforms the GF4 Ti4200 with AA and 8x Anisotropic filtering enabled?

Quote:
The GeForce FX 5200 Ultra performs slightly above the level of a GeForce4 MX 460 in situations where no AA or aniso is enabled; but once again, enabling those features causes the 5200 Ultra to perform more like a GeForce4 Ti 4200 than a GeForce4 MX. The reason behind this is obviously not because of any compression algorithms (as there is no color/Z compression in the NV34 GPU), but rather because of the AA and anisotropic filtering engines, as well as a vastly improved memory controller when compared to the GeForce4 MX (not to mention the higher clock speeds).
So is my thinking correct that I should just skip GF4 altogether for this card that will have a starting price tag of ~ $150?

Sorry for the n00b-like question, I just haven't been following the developments lately (been busy with RL stuff)

There are no Radeons over here, btw. And if there were any, it's still stuck in the 7xxx series.

This must be nvidia land or something.

Strictly limiting myself for a budget card here. I can't take anything away from my car budget and my date budget. Prolly around that figure, $100-150.

Yes it exists. It will retail for like 30 less dollars than the ultra version. IMO its worth getting the Ultra version in this case.

What I get from the article is it performs like a GeForce4MX460, but turn on FSAA and AF and it'll perform like the Ti4200 with the same AA and AF settings.
Well if what I think is true then youre better off with the 4200 unless you absolutely need a DX9 card and love AA/AF.

I think the 5200 is your best choice for a value DX9 card. There's really nothing else at that price range that offers the same features.

I'd try to get the ultra version though. From what I've heard the non-ultra will have severely limited memory bandwidth.

While this discussion is here. How good really will the best GF FX be? I don't mean the ones that are already not avaiilable, (pre order) or was that a myth?

I don't think you can find a 5600 non-ultra for $100-150, the 5200 Ultra costs $150 and the 5600 costs $200, so you would figure the 5600 non-ultra would cost @175.
