The Kt400a chipset looks to be on par performance wise to the Nforce2.. Although it fails to oust the Nforce2 crown.. But Via can optimise the Bios when it finally comes out.. If you need a mobo right now, get an NForce2.. IF not, then wait and see if the Kt400a performs better once it's been released...

I've had a bad time w/ Via chipsets in the past. Go for the nForce 2 since I hear great things about it all the time. It also automatically unlocks processor multiplier settings.

I love my nForce2 board. Best board ive ever seen. The bios has some bugs but they are constantly releasing newer versions. Yea, the nforce2 is the best currently for overclocking.

nForce2 boards are not for overclocking at the moment though... there's a huge bug in its design

According to the Article, it's been squashed by Bios updates..

The nForce 2 performs better now and will probably continue to perform better even after the KT400A is released, but not by a large enough difference to actually notice during normal usage. I mean does anyone care if they get 306 FPS vs 296 FPS? In the end it comes down to what features you want and how much you want to pay. nForce 2 boards have extras like good onboard sound, firewire, and dual lan, and a onboard GF4MX. Via boards are generally cheaper, so they are ideal if you don't care about Soundstorm or any of the other nForce 2 features. As for drivers, I'd say it's a toss-up, although nVidia's video card drivers have been rock solid, I've been using nVidia's motherboard chipset drivers since the nForce 1 (I now own a nForce 2) and although they have gotten better, they aren't the rock solid drivers their video card drivers are. For example for the first year I owned my nForce 1 any time I enabled 3D sound in games it caused bluescreens, (others experienced the same thing). nVidia's nForce drivers have gotten better but there is no comparison between their motherboard drivers and their video card drivers, as a result I would say VIA drivers are around the same level.

Anandtech has some nice comparison numbers between the NF2 and KT400A.

But like I said it's unlikely anyone will notice a couple of frames here and there or a couple of higher numbers in synthetic benchmarks.

yea... and they still haven't released a fix for it though...

i just looked at all the nforce 2 boards that i know, and no company has released the new bios yet to fix the issue... so beware

To disable the RAID, move the SATA_EN1 jumper from 1-2 to 2-3
