Time of upgrading was at hand.

Well I discovered my Radeon 9500 Pro was not working with my old Motherboard/. Due to compatibility issues. I don't care what ATI says tho. my board was AGP 2.0 compliant.

Anyhow. I ended up Buying an Albatron KX400 (Kt400 Chipset)

512 Megs of DDR333 memory.

And of course the Radeon 9500 Pro.

And I must say the performance increase of the card/new mainboard/cpu is incredible...

I was strugglin for 9,400 3dmarks with my old board... 16 bit mode and now doing 10,020 3dmarks at the default bench

and I broke 10k at absolute zero OCing settings. I am quite satisfied with my new machine..

Sorry if this comes out as bragging. spent 19 hours trying to get it working. So I am kinda excited that I finally did it

I'm glad to hear it. However, don't expect overclocking. The Radeon 9500 Pro has a BIOS that resets back to the original clock settings. But seriously, with a card like a Raeon 9500 Pro, who would need to overclock it?

Here's the link to Rage3D Tweak: http://www.rage3d.com/r3dtweak/

And here's the link to drivers: http://mirror.ati.com/support/driver.html

You can flash warp11's BIOS and then overclock it.
Glad to hear that you got your problems fixed Chrisray. Finnaly got DDR RAM have you?
How much did all of them cost, BTW?

I wonder how can I break 10K in 3dMark without O/Cing,other than buying a new processor

I did 3DMark03 out of curiosity: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=439062

Here's 3DMark2001: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=6162332

It's not as high as ChrisRay... must be my mobo and ram.. I guess.

Nice. Now a CPU upgrade would be in order.
And you need a new puter profile...

PlayerX: What have you againts overclocking anyway?
As for my 3DMarkscore, I got something like early 12000 without overclocking. I should try pushing my rig to the max then running 3DMark sometime.

I am not against it,It's just my Polamino won't allow me to o/c due to the 60C+ temps

Either I get a Barton 3000+ or a TBred-a/b and o/c it to 3000+ speeds

My only real issue with this Radeon 9500 Pro is it runs alot hotter than my Geforce 4 did.
I have had to supply additional cooling to keep it from locking up

You can try removing the shim. I recall you saying you'll never touch that, but thats one of the ways. You can also remove that 0.07amps joker in there and hang a 80mm using wires on the heatsink.I have my modded Intel fan on it with the heatsink lapped and shim removed and it still gets too hot. $%*#...

Well PlayerX, I suppose if youre hardcore you could lower the multiplier but up the FSB. You could push a little more performance doing that.

Isn't the Radeon 9500 Pro better than a GeForce 4 ti4600? I got 10k with my GF4 4200 with no O/Cing whatsoever. You do have a slower CPU and killed me in the shaders though.

The 9500PRO performs about equally with a 4600 without AA and AF. It loses to the 4600 in some tests and wins in the others. It loses more tests than it wins though.
However, turn on FSAA and it outperforms the 4600 by a considerable margin.

Well I am only running an Athlon XP 1600+ 3dmark2001 is also CPU limited.

I'm sure in 3dmark2003 thigns would be a different story but I doubt I will ever use that benchmark...

CPUs are just as important in todays games as graphic cards...

When did that happen? What did you do to fix that?

So I guess you're slightly disappointed from what I can tell.

Not really disapointed. Annoyed maybe that the card required more cooling than stock allowed. But it works so what can I say?

The new system is running great. It just locked up when my room tempature was way up.
