Simple mod for p4 stock HSF users who want to maintain a constant fan speed

Forgive the long topic name, but I found a link to another forum where a guy has moded his intel hsf so that it maintains a constant high speed...

I did it too and i got an extra 1200 rpm! (now at constant 4600 rpm)!!! processor temps down by 3 degrees celcius!

Ah, if only this came earlier. I tried everything I could think of like a few days ago, cut the green wire, connected to the PSU, look for software, bleh.
What conductor did you use? Im thinking of using pencil as I dont have any soldering equipment at home. I havent tried using pencil before though, might need some help.

Why such weak fans for such fast CPUs? The fan on my K6-2 runs at 5550 RPMs with a HS as big as a P4's. :eyes:

Because P4's are cooler.

Anyway Im using a Volcano7+ now. The P4 fan was used as a casing one before, but now Im trying to mod the fan mainly for fun and better cooling for my HDD.

My CPU at max load is at 21 degrees Celsius, not even close to some P4s. :eyes:

modding the fan sounds fun. but i don't have a p4 and i'm happy with my volcano 9 and my arctic silver... the combo is amazing...

You need not to. I've concluded that there is absolutely no reason for cooliscool to strap on such huge a heatsink and a powerfull fan bar l33t0 factor.

Pencil lead contains graphite. Graphite AFAIK conducts eletricity.

CIC, get LH2 and freeze the shyte out of your CPU. Air cooling is for losers.

I used lead on it, and now the fan's running at 3500rpm at all times. :grin: Thanks for the info.
I had to rip off some plastic cover though.

This is why i love my case so much. i have the ability to put a case in front of my hard drive to keep them nice and cool.

There's not much point in Cooling your Hard Drives tho. Since you can't OC RPM rates and they are designed to operate at extreme tempatures...

Waiste of wattage to me
