Speaking of dust! Wow, I just opened my case up today to put my old Voodoo 3 back in (Stupid Geforce overlay). And there sure were a lot of dust bunnies in there! Gave it a good clean and everything is nice and clean. For now. The nice thing was the temperature in my case is actually quite cool. Good airflow too. The dust is not a big deal when you clean it once and a while and make sure that your fans are not clogged up.

Dust sure is a big issue if you don't even install casing fans, with fans the rate increases to double (for dust pile up), so what I do is take a Vaccum Cleaner, put the thin hose infront of it and blow the dust out of the case, for heavy blow I even remove the blowing machine of the vaccum from the dust chamber. If dust is not cleaned then the fans start making even more noise.

I have extreme cooling for mine. a volcano 9, and 4 more case fans (the same case fans used in the volcano 9). and i have all of them blowing into the case. I have an exhaust fan right under my voodoo 3 (i'm too cheap).

since my comp is fairly new, no dust yet. but for my other comps... it need its semi annual appointment with the vacuum.

*i thought i was the only person who cleans the comp with the vaccum

As I recall aren't you NOT supposed to use a vacuum on your computer? From what I remember, a charge builds up at the end of the hose where the sucking takes place. That could potentially damange sensitive components. Oh the case itself it's not a big deal but you probably won't want to be doing that on any PCBs.

I guess that's why they have compressed air but some say that it leaves a residue when you use it. Seems that you just can't win.

I have to admit though, I have vacuumed my PC several times just out of sheer laziness to go some other (safer) route.

static is suppose to build up. but how can static end up in the plastic hose? really, even if you know what you are doing, it won't matter. That's why the case is made out of metal so that if there was a wiring fault, electricity goes to a path of less resistance (which is the case) and the case acts as a ground.

I remember this because i have a whole class about computer hardware. and we had a whole week about electricity and damage static would do.

I know . I originally got this case by pulling it out of the skip at the back of craigavon hospital.

I remember a similar thread from sometime ago.
Anyways, mine's with 10 Fans.
4 intakes, 3 exhausts, 1 stock Intel fan blowing the primary HDD, 1 in the PSU and 1 Volcano7+.
11 If you include the one on the video card.

EDIT: I live in the same place as Han, you can say it's a hot country...

1 intake
1 exaust
volcano 7+
one on my video card
2 in power supply
1 for each of my hard drives (2 hard drives)
one on my chipset

so 9 in total but it seems like i only have one fan since the volcano mutes out all the other ones lol

Mines allways overclocked (right now I have a 1400@1752) but I dont have loads of fans
I've got 1 on my mobo chipset (that hardly counts though as its so small)
1 on my G4, 2 in my psu, a delta 8000rpm on my cpu, I also have an intake and an out blower but there not plugged in.
Im sick of the delta but Im not ready to run a cpu at stock so I can use a quiet fan so Im considering building myself a watercool setup.
Has anyone else here used watercooling? I might have some questions for anyone who has (how easy are they to live with, do they need constant maintence etc).

9 here as well:

1x cpu fan
1x gfx card fan
1x extractor mounted on case near cpu
2x front inlet (bottom)
2x rear exhaust (top)
Dual 300W PSU Setup. Hence one fan in each of the 2 PSU's.

Nothing beats my configuration: I have a large electric fan blowing at my PC at all times!

I've got this really cool problem with my motherboard. About 6 months ago, a large 4700uF capacitor in the mobo got busted and whenever my PC remains on for about just 5 minutes, it resets and never boots again. So I have to wait for about a few days before I can use my PC again. So replaced the capacitor, but it didn't fix the problem, thus the electric fan.

The setup is really clunky so I'm thinking of adding the two extra fans I have from my old processors instead of the large electric fan.
So my question is: how do I tap supply for the extra fans from the power cables?

Thanks

System specs: Lowly Duron 850, MS-6330 Lite ATX VA (VIA KT133 chipset).

PrTv, I don't think you're crazy at all. I have 6 fans and a blower in my case and where I live (California USA) isn't nearly as hot as where you are. It seems that one can never have enough cooling.
But since there was just a similar thread on this very subject posted recently, I'm going to merge the two threads.
sincerely,
sx/amiga
