CD-RW makes strange sounds

I've just started to notice this a month ago. But since then, it escolated to a more serious problem. Spin-uping a CD is fine, but when I comes to a spin-down, there is a horrible grinding noise coming from the CD-RW. It first started with a certain CD-R, now it's with every CD I own. Also when I check the bottom of the CD, I don't notice any scratched. Is this something I could fix? cause my warrenty already expired

Try removing the drive from the bay and shaking it gently. Something may have come loose for some reason.

I recommend Lite-On's. I've had drives from Yamaha, Sony and a couple of other's whose names escape me. The Lite-on is the only drive that has lasted more than a year. Most died after about 6 months. This drive is now 18 months old, and still going strong.

I stand corrected. It only happens with my cheap Kodak CD-R (you heard me, Kodak!! )

Anyways, that CD-RW I have is a I/O Magic. I would think that it would last long, but if this is the case, it's no good manufacturer

I'm using Cybredrive, And it's now a year old. No problems with it so far. It does make some sounds during spin-up but it limited to particular CDs alone.

I would assume LG would be a tad more pricey. I checked out Lite-on once and it had the best features relative to prices (CloneCD data)
