Apm
After reinstalling winxp pro, APM tab dosnt show anymore. I disabled apm in my bios, that didnt work, I enabled APM in my bios, that did nothing. I looked in help, nothing to solve my problem.......any1 have any ideas?
Reading thru the help, it appears I have ACPI installed, and not APM. So how do I have my computer shut down by itself when I click on the shutdown button?

AFAIK it's ACPI that makes it shut off by itself when you click on shutdown, not APM. APM is the older version of ACPI.
Try turning off APM in the BIOS (which i think is the default), then reinstall WinXP.

Ah, it appears I'm mistaken. You need to enable APM in the BIOS.
Anyway, try running Add new hardware and have it automatically detect any new hardware to force it to recognize APM.

Oh, and it could also be due to an incorrectly installed HAL, and you need to install a new HAL. To do that you'll need to reinstall Windows:
Boot off your Windows 2000 or XP CD. When asked if you want to install or repair your current installation, choose Install. Then, follow the steps to upgrade Windows (even though you're not technically upgrading, you are updating your HAL). That should do it!

The coolest part about ACPI is that it allows me to perform a Windows Shutdown by pressing the power button! No more clicking shutdown!
