Thinking about upgrading....

As of now I have a Celeron 1.1 Ghz CPU and I was wondering if it would make that big of a diffrence if I went to a Pentium 3 processor... if I do get it, I wanna see the difference and not feel that I wasted my money...and also is there special jumper settings that I would I have to change in order to get it working.

Why's you go for a Pentium3? They are somewhat expensive. Getting an Athlon would be much better.

I would go with either an AMD XP 2100+ (if money is tight) or Pentium 4 2.4Ghz (if you have a little more money)

I don't think anything over a pentium 3 will work.

I guess you dont need an upgrade right now.

Most games will run full speed on that processor anyway.

Nooooo! don't get a pentium III, they are too expensive for the performance that they give, I think U are trying to save ur motherboard, well if U are then U are making a terible mistake. Get ur self an Athlon XP 1800+ or a 1.8 Ghz Pentium 4(which sucks)

Saving your mobo really isn't worth it. Plenty of extremely cheap Athlon boards out there, your probably using Sdram so that can be ported over, Why get a pentium 3? so many better solutions.

Why suddenly go back to pentium III why don't use pentium 4 or Athlon instead of using Pentium III with low FSB.

He's not "going back" to anything, since he uses a P3 already. I think he's just looking for a CPU upgrade, without switching the motherboard.

Kaotic Soul: My advice would be to get a Celeron Tualatin 1.3 Ghz or the rare P3 Tualatin 1.4 Ghz if you can find it. The P3 Tualatin is a fantastic processor, as fast as the Athlon XP using SDRAM. They also have quite a bit of overclocking headroom so you can squeeze a lot of performance out of them. The Celeron isn't as fast as the P3 but can overclock well due to their low FSB. A Celeron 1.3 Ghz overclocked to 133 Mhz FSB would be 1.7 Ghz. You may need a better HSF and some minor voltage tweaks but from what I've heard it's attainable.

Depends on the motherboard also, a good motherboard is needed to ensure overclocking is success, without a good motherboard to overclocked means looking for trouble. If you are trying to overclocked it to 133 FSB, some motherboards cannot accept it, resulting in black screen when booting up the computer.

I agree with most of the replies, get a new Socket A motherboard and an Athlon/ Duron...a Pentium III instead of a Celeron isn't worth the money...
