very strange problem of the CDRW I just bought

Dear all :

I just bought a CDRW (48x16x48) drive from Best busy. It's
amazingly a good deal because this CDRW just cost 39.99 dollars.
After mailin rebate, it will just cost 29.99 dollars.

However, after I install it, I met a stange problem. My window 98
system just consider it as a removalble drive instead of a CD rom drive. However, If I put a cd disk in the drive , the window 98 will
consider it as a CD rom drive after I reboot the computer again.

Could any body tell me how to make that CDRW drive always considered as a CD rom drive ?

Thanks very much

Try using a newer OS.

I didn't install any driver because as the manul says , the win 98 can automatically find the driver for the CDRW drive.

As for the hardware part, I put this CDRW drive as the slave drive because I had an CDR drive as the mater drive. Should I exchange ?

Sincerely,

Check the jumper pins at the back of the drive to see if you've correctly configured it asthe slave, although I suggest you put it as the master on the seconday IDE chain.
