HardDisk Problem

Guys i need your help
yesterday my HDD went hawires and is now, well think its ****ed.
i was watching a movie and when it finished all of the sudden my comp restarted, but it didn't wanna boot windows XP Pro, so i restarted and it made a scandisk and then restarted again, then i started doing something called checkdisk and when it finished it restarted.
And now i can't do anything, each time it reaches dos-promt it tells me that i can't find my drive and tells me to restart.
I tried formating my comp but when its finished it tells me it was unable to format it, its as if my c: drive dosn't exist.
Whats going on

start the comp with startup disk and run fdisk and delete the current partition and create a new one and then try formatting

I was thinking of doing that, but is there a chance my pc is broken or might screw up

1. check the bios startup screen. If your drive isn't mentioned, open the comp up and check that a cable hasn't come loose

2. If the drive is detected its probs a farked up partition follow campi's instructions

3. If the drive is making wierd noises and /or fdisk can't write the partition it's busted.

If you have a boot sector virus.... you are pretty much screwed... have fun getting rid of that without a virus protector... the best virus protector is probably PC-Cillin.... free upgrades... unlike others.... Mcaffe... cough... norton... cough....cough....

maybe a faulty RAM....

maybe there is a short on your Power Supply...

or you have a mobo with an auto shutdown if the cpu gets too hot or if the fan fails... and its acting up. (guessing on this one)

If the bios could see the hard drive.... its most likely not your hard drive...

Perhaps your harddisk has a bad sector on it or maybe your power supply already run out of power
