Should I pick up that Abit GF4Ti OTES?
The Abit GeForce4 Ti4200 OTES. I should be able to overclock it to 4600 speeds, but I can only find the 64MB version. Costs $168... however, picking this up also means that I'll be in debt to my mother for 8 months, unless I get to sell off some of my magic cards which I got for swapping with Diablo2 items, or when I get my Chinese New Year pocket money next year.
This is however the last OTES the shop will have. |

Sure, why not... if you're already used to being neck-deep in debt anyway.
![]() btw, what are those magic cards? got any Arabian Nights/Legends ones?

Well, maybe...cant stand this GF2mx no more. But Im not deeply in debt, yet.
![]() I know next to nothing bout Magic cards, they're old cards, however. Probably worth nothing much now but I will atleast lighten my debts abit... I have 1 Masticore, 1 Serra Avatar, 1 Avatar of Woe, 2 Avatar of mights, 1 Avatar of Fury, 1 Rootwater theif, Heart,Skull and Tooth of Ramos, a Spectral Lynx and some ancient-old semi-useless cards like enchant and things like that. I dont know how much are they worth though... |

If it dont cost a lot more than a normal ti4200 then yeah go for it, I wouldnt base the desicion on the fact u might be able to overclock it to 4600 speeds though as its not a certainty.
The core should overclock well due to the meaty fan but the memory is still not the real fast stuff so I'd be suprised if it hits 4600 speeds. From what I've seen most of those abits hit 4400 speeds but then again so does my 4200. |

Eh? It IS a GF4Ti4200, SL.
![]() The difference is about $28 from a Leadtek Winfast 4200. It has a cooling system similar to that of a GFFX which takes up an agp and a pci slot, though... think its worth it? Now that you mention it, JAZ, Im worried that its RAM might not hit 4600 speeds. Kinda takes the point out of buying an OTES instead of a normal 4200. |

if the extra $28 is easily within your budget then I say get it because it looks kewl
and theres more chance of getting a higher overclock with it than a standard 4200, it takes up that extra pci slot but with my board that slot is irq shared with the agp anyway so its best not to use it (I can only assume this is the same on all boards).

Actually it only uses that slot's space, not the pci port itself. Well...I noticed some fins coming out of the copper plate where the RAM chips should be, and I think air is directed towards the fins by the 7200rpm fan so $28 is probably worth the extra cooling and the looks. If it is what I think, It should improve the temperatures inside the casing since hot air is directed out of the case instead of being blown towards other cards.
![]() Well, another thing worries me, actually... because its only 64MB. I wouldnt be able to run games at very high textures smoothly with that, right? |

Yeah I meant that about the pci slot
as for the 128mb vs the 64mb its up to you to make the choice over the 2 but I have to say my 64mb version takes everything I throw at it with ease.I run my games at 1280x1024 and there all give very playable or perfect Fps. |

Err...whatever.
(I mean the pci thing.)Hmm... thats a tough choice to make. I can get a Suma 128MB which overclocks to atleast 4400 speeds easily for about the same price, but it doesnt have that evil looking cooling stuff. Then again the OTES probably overclocks better. That guy in the shop actually got the speeds beyond those of a 4600...but his OTES is probably one in a hundred or something. BTW, I pm'ed you. ![]() edit: BTW again, thanks for all the suggestions/advice guys. And one girl.
