overclocking my GF4

Is is safe to overclock my video card with no extra cooling?
I am looking to overclock it from 270MHz core/ 400MHz memory, to 300MHz/480MHz.
Some advice please~?

i got a ti4200 the otherday and ive overclocked it from 250/500 (i think this was the default) to 300/550 with no extra cooling and I think the core will go a bit higher but im going to need cooling on the memory to get it higher.
It runs fine at these speeds no xtra cooling, just run a game after clocking it as it will become apparent very quickly if the cards clocked too high (artifacts will appear)

I have both a 4600 and a 4200 and I overclocked both of them. The reason I overclock is because there's really no reason not to, and I want to get the maximum performance out of my purchase. I was able to get my 4200 up to 300 core/600 mem with stock cooling. My 4600 was able to make it to 340 core / 740 mem. I've never fried a card, and I doubt I ever will, and video cards get upgraded so frequently that shortened lifespan isn't really a concern, since who really keeps a video card for over a year nowadays anyways?
