Help installing new Vid card

Okay, my friend Kris just bought a new vid card for his 1700+ xp comp. and its a GeForce 4 Ti4200 (I'm gonna be at his comp when playing epsxe) and he has given me his Voodoo 3 3000 pci, cuz he doesn't need it anymore.

Now here's the problem. I have an onboard vid card (the crappy Intel 810). I put in the new pci vid card and I removed the onboard video from the Device Manager. and i load up the software drivers for it, restart, etc. now, everything is messed up. sometimes the desktop doesn't show, flashing, and it keeps doing wierd things.

Well i solved the problem by doing a system rollback ( i love this feature for WinME, when i ***** up, it fixes it... well sorta). I want to know what I'm doing wrong.

So anyone plz help me out.

Maybe U might have created some drover conflict, thats usually the cause most imminent to happen.

Go to the bios and change the video card from onboard VGA to PCI. That might work...

I would almost say you have an Aopen Ax3S mobo =P
but anyway, probably an IRQ conflict. Check if there are many devices using the same IRQ and try to change that.

As ToM_E suggested try going into the BIOS and disabling the on-board video.

One more thing, as your disabling your old vid card you can also disable the video memory option. That will give your comp another 8MB or so of system ram to play around in (not much I know but its for free innit

)

wait wait wait... IIRC, the 810 cannot accept a new video card as it was never designed to support any vid card other than it's own 810 core. Right? I'm pretty sure he can't disable his old 810, so he will have to either get a new mobo, or an operating system that can support 2 graphics cards.

well. my 810 conflicts with the voodoo. and everytime i get rid of it from the device drivers, it keeps on coming back... everytime i restart. god... i hate intel. i've identified what the gfx chip was... but i don't want to remove it as it is wired and really rooted in the mobo. and i'm too afraid that i might kill the whole motherboard if i romove it. damnit. i hate my e machine. and i hate whoever designed the 810 onboard. gfx card. i'm so pissed of right now. after 5 days of trying. i'll throw in the towel.
