Screen smoothing with various video cards
Hi all,
I’m curious which video cards are able to handle the screen smoothing option in Pete’s graphics plug-ins reasonably quickly. The card in my current computer is a Radeon VE — the slowest of the Radeon cards. It’s able to run screen smoothing with Pete’s OpenGL, but not Direct3D. The option isn’t fast, but can run at 60 FPS in some games at 640x480. So... Has anyone tried this option with a Parahelia? With a Radeon 8500 or 9000? (I’ll assume it runs well on an NVidia card, since that’s where the testing occurred. But I’d prefer to avoid NVidia because of their poor overlay.) [I just moved this post over from the Playstation plug-ins forum, since the question probably belongs over here.] |

DON'T get a parhelia! they cost too damn much for a card that can easily be beaten by an nvidia counterpart. My gf4mx can do screen smoothing and 2xsai without speed loss, but i hat both options. bilinear filtering is more than enough for me.

The NVidia cards don’t have gamma controls for overlay, and have relatively poor overlay scaling. Both of those are more important to me than speed with recent games. The Parahelia’s third monitor support is also a plus.
But yes, the Parahelia is very expensive. So I’m leaning toward an ATI card, plus a PCI card for the third monitor. But I’m not in a rush to buy, so the Parahelia may well be much cheaper by the time I get a new machine and graphics card. |
