Question Changing the CPU ID

Does anybody know how to? Just for kicks...

You could probably do it if you new how to edit your motherboard bios, but that can be hard to do since it's really hard to get ahold of the source code for bioses. And you aren't likely to find someone else that has written a program for this sort of thing since no one has really seen a good reason to do it.

you mean just change what your processor's called? well you can edit the name by typing regedit, then goto hkey_local_machine. then hardware/description/system/central processor. here's an example..lol i did this on win98, so im not sure if it works on xp or not. it also resets the name everytime you restart your computer

i renamed mine to genuineintel pentium 4 and look what it did i really have a k6-2 500

I know this is a little off- topic, but does anyone know a way to rename the video card or anything else? Or could you just use the same way as renaming the processor?

the cpu ID is hardcoded in the CPU..
u cant change it.

you CAN change what windows reports it as...but you cant change the real real value.
