ATI's new Radeon line: New King?

Anandtech has shown a review of ATI's new chips: RV250 and RV300. The RV250 doesn't show anything interesting, since it's beaten by the GF4 MX, but the surprise is the great performance of RV300! It outperforms the GF4 Ti4600, becoming the new high end video card king. Here are the reviews:

RV250: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1655

RV300: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1656

Wow, it seems ATI's finally made their comeback. I can't believe how fast this card is, even when using rudemantary drivers. I guess ATI's muscle finally shows through.

This looks like a really good card. I wish they showed how some games ran with it.

Here are a few numbers for those of you who can't wait. The 3DMark2001SE score of GeForce4 Ti4600 was 11,400, while Radeon 9700, with its young driver, scored 14,000. Once 4x FSAA and 8x anisotropic filtering was used, the scores changed quite significantly. GeForce4 Ti4600 was able to get a mere 4500 points, while Radeon 9700 scored 10,000 points, thus, more than twice the points of the competitor from NVIDIA
Still it aint released yet but it looks great if the final products as good as the pre release version tested.

Can't wait to get my hands on one of these things. 30 days is too long a wait. Damn I really wish I hadn't bought 2 GF4's now.

lets not make this a NVIDIA vs ATI thread ok?

edit: and yea, but i've heard the radeon 9000 sucks... suppose to just compete with the weak GF4 MX, only 9700 is something to look into

But the Radeon 9000 is DirectX 9 compliant, which is more than you can say for the GeForce 4 MX series. They're selling for around $100 so they'd be the best choice for value consumers.

Give it time, Nvidia will create a video card that will beat out the ATI Radeon video cards.

Personally I am still satisfy with my Geforce 2 MX video card.

Actually the 9000 is only DX 8.1 compliant which I guess is still more than what can be said for the GF4MX (only DX7). Its purpose is to replace the 8500. Only the 9700 and later the slower clocked 9500 will be DX9.

how much time? 1 year? 6 months is probably more correct... the thing is... nvidia is truly a underdog for once in a looong time.

this is what it seems from my point of view... nvidia was working on the xbox's hardware and now they are backed down a bit...

let me tell you something... I know for sure the NV30 will beat the **** out of the 9700 (well maybe not that much but will be beat for sure). As nvidia would never release a product slower than ATI's.

but seriously how long would it take? R350 anyone?

edit: im glad you're satisfied with your card... nowadays... people are very very power hungry..(me) but it's amazing to see these new cards in flying colors :eyes:

I've never really owned or tried an ATi card before. Seriously thinking about buying a Radeon and keep my GF4 in storage.

How good is an ATi card, anyway?

why would they put it on their server anyways? and why would they want to hide it anyhow?

if nvidia has a chance, they would show off their geforce 5 as much as possible for marketing reasons (ati, parhelia, old geforces)... if they wanted to keep it secret... it's not hard.

I've been considering buying a GF4, but I don't know if I should wait for the Radeon 9700. The only thing I don't like about Radeon so far is their driver support. not too good.

Sis cards are kind of crappy anyway aren't they?

Well you have one of the best Sis cards competing against one of Nvidia"s fourth or fifth best cards. I wonder who is going to win....
