SiS Xabre GPU news

ASUStek, Gainward and Chaintech goes Xabre

It seems that popularity of Xabre graphics processors is increasing rapidly. Something similiar we have seen at Computex 2001 with KYRO family of graphics processors when loads of videocard manufacturers announced their solutions based on the new chips. Those boards never appeared in huge quantities.

During the week we have found out that ASUStek, Gainward and Chaintech decided to join the camp of the brave Xabre.

OCWorkBench has posted the photos of Xabre400 based videocard from ASUS, one of the best friends of NVidia, online. The boards seem to be ready for mass production and is equipped with VGA, DVI, TV-Out connectors with two simultaneous display support via SiS301 chip.

Our colleagues from Clubic have information regarding the low-end videocards from Chaintech. Apparently, 5 out of 7 are based on different versions of SiS Xabre GPU, the rest are powered by the GeForce4 MX graphics processor.

We have learned at Akiba that Gainward, known for its higher clocked GeForces, offers Xabre videoadapters in Asia.

Well, everything seems to be fine. But will SiS be able to develop good-enough drivers and supply their graphics chips in large quantities? We will wait and see.

What do you guys think? Will SiS be playing with the big boys now?

i know..why i downloaded the xabre drivers as soon as they came out in case they delt. it later :-)

SIS doesnt have the budget to design high end cards..besides..even nvidia makes 80% of their money on the low end cards.

Thats where the money is and its where SIS wants to be.

Iīm a SIS video card use  and all i have to say about them is:

They Sucks :fingers:

This is what iīll do to the video card if i got it in my hands:

, :mg: , :rockets: , :laser: , ,

Thereīs no good point for us gamers to go fo one of them. I have been trying several games with a lot of slowdowns.

But since it comes with the mother board, all i can do and must to do itīs to get a descent PCI video card from nVidia. (GeForce2 MX 400)

Why PCI? I notice a great difference between AGP and PCI. You're motherboard has to have a AGP Slot

Heh even my Trident Blade3d/MVP4 is better than a SIS

I use to have a Sis 530, it really sucks. It doesn't actually accelerate 3d it leaves that up to the CPU. Even in 320 X 480 you woudl get slowdown.

Do yourself a favor and get a GeForce. A GF2 MX200 is a bare minimum.

the thign is Nvidia shot themselves in the foot. before it was expensive to make vid cards since all the features needed to be hardcoded into the chip and thus increased pin count. Now you can come out with a cheapo vid card and as long as it supports pixel and vertex shaders, u can have a cheap core and it will perform nice.

< / end real advice>

< humor >
then nvidia proceeded to sell the luisiana territory to the white folk for 300dollars.

For disgrasse not, my SiS videocard comes integered with my mother board, so they exclude the AGP slot, the only free slot i have are 3 PCI slot.

How Sadly
