i have no sfx in final fantasy 8 pc
im using winxp, the latest live 51 drivers,i can hear the music but no explosions, no water splashing...nothing.. im seriously considering to return to win 98se,atleast there it worked perfectly... the eidos faq says something about commpressed audio codecs but they dont say exactly which one... also the game is patched :help:

Make sure DirectX is updated.
That's really strange that you're getting the music but not the sound, 'cause the DirectMusic engine, on most systems, is software based, which means it uses the wave device, which then means it's partially based on the DirectSound, and DirectSound is what is used for the sound effects.

Well, there's part of your problem. Eidos was only involved FF7PC, NOT-I repeat NOT- involved with FF8PC. Mailing them will get you nothing.
Also, Morrowind probably doesn't use the Dmusic engine. It's kinda unfair to compare the to games sound performance, since the only real way to test it would be if both games did use the Dmusic engine. The SBLive! should be fully capable of doing DirectSound and Dmusic simultaneously. This really confuses me, now. Even an old SBAWE64 is capable of doing it. It could simply be WinXP acting up...... Waitaminute. Have you tried setting it to run in Win98 compatibility mode?
