I have a question for anyone who knows about this nifty little app. for Nvidia cards. If you set the settings using Riva Tuner, but you don't have them set in the driver section, like FSAA for instance. Does Riva Tuner still enable it? I am just curious because if it does, then I am using 4x9tap FSAA w/2xSAI textures and full screen smoothing. The great thing is, that if indeed, this is the case, it is working beautifully togther. My games run full speed and look fabulous. I'm using Pete's OGL plugin vers. 1.64. So if anyone could tell me about this, I would greatly appriecate it. Also could anyone explain what 4x9tap FSAA is as opposed to regular 4x FSAA, please? Thanks.
sincerely, sx/amiga |

Yes, if you enable the settings in Rivatuner, it will enable the settings. You can even go into the Display Properties tab to check for yourself, since when you change settings in Rivatuner they get changed in the Display Properties tab as well. The Display Properties tab and Rivatuner modify the same registry entries, they both work the same way. As for the difference between 4x 9-tap and just plain 4x, 4x 9-tap gets put through a 9-tap filter meaning it interpolates more pixels with the same number of samples as regular 4x. It is similar to the difference between 2x FSAA and Quincunx. 4x 9-tap like Quincunx blurs the screen and textures more because it trys to Antialias more without more texture samples. There is a slightly greater performance hit with 4x 9-tap as opposed to just regular 4x but it does remove jaggies better.

Thanks Particleman. I knew someone had to know. I appriecate the explanation as well, since it is nice to know how these things work. This means that I've got 2xSAI, full screen smoothing, and 4x9tap FSAA working together, w/no performance drop in games.
Now I am glad that I bought that GF4 and upgraded my processor. sincerely, sx/amiga |
