Monitor: NO more red!!!

Seems like my magview monitor is capput.. Blues and greens show just fine, but red is completely gone.. It's not my graphics cards since I have tested both my voodoo 5 and geforce 4 with the same results.. I am looking at a weird blue hue right now without any red.. everything red looks sorta yellowish..

Is there a way to fix this with monitors? Or is buying a new monitor the only viable choice at this point.. I have tried the color settings on both graphics cards and still no red shows up..

Thanks for any help..

Maybe the cable's not connected firmly to the card.... or that one of the pins at the end of the cable broke. It happens when you remove your monitor from the card fairly often.

I guess Shiori's hair looks kinda yellowish, eh?

I agree with Shiori that the cable may be a possible cause of this problem, but if it isn't, then you're in serious trouble. Fixing a monitor on your own requires a lot of experience, and it's quite dangerous.

Some time ago my monitar was kinda unstable about colors too. Sometimes the screen got all yellowish, sometimes the screen was all blueish, sometimes it was all redish. Anyway, I got sick of that and took it to the maintenance, and they fixed it (they had to change some component that was broken). Anyway, it was free because it was all covered by the warranty. Also my friend's monitor had problems with colors too, but she could easily "fix" the problem: she used to hit the monitor, and the colors came back to normal.

fivefeet8, if your monitor is not very good (or if it's too old), consider buying a new one. Mine is 17' and works like a charm, it can get up to 160Hz of refresh rate (I use 85Hz only ).

You can check the cable pin No. 1 (watching the connector from its front and from left to right) which is the red signal. If it looks OK not broken, then do a conductivity and resistance test with a VOM, maybe the red signal cable is broken internaly.

Thanks guys, for the info.. I looked at my monitor cable and the connection and there was a little pin missing.. I took a little staple and cut it to the appropriate size and put that in it's place.. Now the red is back.. Even Shiori's hair..

Hehe.. My magview 19" monitor is actually pretty new and it's very good.. 1600x1200 max res.. Love watching movies on it since it's so big.. Anyways, I guess the pin broke off this Sunday since this weekend I was messing with the TV out in my geforce 4 ti and was connecting/disconnecting the monitor cable a lot..

Damn!! TV out is great.. Playing arcade games on mame with my TV looks so arcade authentic.. I also tried watching some Divx movies and they looked a lot better than when watching them from my computer monitor(TV hides the video discrepancies better).. Psx games also looked very nice, but I still prefer High res computer monitors for 3d games..

I also tried Dual Display setups.. Watched a movie fullscreen on my TV while I serfed the net or played some games on my computer monitor.. Cool.. I am gonna take my old 15" monitor back from my friend so I can try a triple display setup.. Or better yet, a quadruple display setup with my voodoo 5..

I don't see why it wouldn't be.. It's a piece of metal replacing a broken piece of metal.. I made sure the metal staple was the correct size though.. It's working great so far(fingers crossed)..

Hey! Good job fixing your monitor! How does the staple stay in it's place? Did you just stick it in?:nod2::thumbup:

Nice to know it worked. Happened to me before, except that I was seeing magenta all over.

It great to hear that you fixed the problem.

The only time where I've seen that the red was gone from the screen was this Arkanoid arcade machine. The funny thing is, when you punch the cabinet, the redness would come and go sometimes it would stay but at other times, the red would go away.

Thanks guys.. There was a pin missing from the monitor connection.. The whole pin was gone.. There was only a little hole in it's place.. So I cut a little metal rod out of the staple and measure it by sticking it into the hole before I cut it.. Then I cut it and put it in.. I also used a little super clue to keep it in place..

That sounds like something out of my repair book . On my old monitor had some "DIY" repair jobs done on it, eg the power switch broke and was the soldered to "on". However the damn thing caught on fire about a year ago, so what I'm saying is be careful.
