You need an 80-pin IDE cable. They have two or three connectors (for single and dual-device models, respectively,) and are easily identifiable by the colours of the connectors. There's always a blue connector which goes to the motherboard and a black one which goes to the master device. There's also a white connector on dual-device cables which goes to the slave device.

Just set the jumpers on your IDE devices (such as hard drives and CD/DVD drives) to "Cable Select", use some 80-pin IDE cables and set up the master/slave roles by simply connecting the black connector to the master, the white to the slave, and the blue to the motherboard. This way you can change from master to slave by just rearranging the cables without having to go flipping jumpers around.

BDA7DD, the cable needed is 40-pin, not 80-pin as you said. The connector should look just like the other one (since both have the same amout of pins), but it actually has 80 wires, instead of 40 wires as the ATA33 used to have. The extra 40 strands in a ATA66/100 cable act as insulators between the 40 signalling strands to prevent/reduce crosstalk. This way you can reach higher transfer speeds.

Yes. If your chipset support ATA100 transfers, you only need a 40-pin / 80 wires cable.

Yeah, 80 wires, that's what I meant. I get the two confused quite often. It's also known as an ATA-100 compatible IDE cable. I don't think there is such a thing as an IDE cable with 80 pins come to think of it. Just make sure it's got the coloured connectors, that's the simplest way to tell the difference from the older 40 wire cables. There are other visible differences, but the colours of the connectors is the most noticable.

Less than $5.00 (CAD) each. They're cheap. Remember that those 80-wire cables will work for any IDE UDMA device, whether it be ATA-33, ATA-66, ATA-100 or the new ATA-133.
