How to repair a scratch CD

Recently I took out my collection of burn CD's to examine their contents for old time's sake. However, there was one particular CD that I noticed had a major scratch on it to the point where it cannot be read anymore. Upon closer examination of that CD, I saw that it had a rather large label-side(the side for writing, not the plastic side)hole(I could see right through the CD) that was pretty big. Now I did a little research on the net about this problem and it turn that if it's a label-side scratch, then the CD is beyond repairs.

I'd like to know if anyone's had this problem before and what they did to fix it, if it's fixable. The CD in question is really important, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you really can't extract an ISO out of it anymore, even with Blindwrite, then it's really a goner.

label-side holes are unfixable. your best bet is something like blindread/write to extract what you can and see if its anything useful.

If your CD hangs and cannot read it anymore, then you have to buy another one

I thot there's this special liquid that can remove scratch and all?

Here in my place, there's a lot of these shopkeepers who sell these liquid that removes scratch. They even do a demo on their product. After scratching a VCD with a sharp object, they put the liquid then play it on their vcd player, voila, amazingly, the movie runs smoothly. (when scratched, the movie was stuttering)

I wonder if that thing really works...

I've seen some CD repair kits out there. I am doubtful if they actually work though. They kinda look like CD cleaners except instead of a soft piece of cloth which cleans the CD, they have blades to skim off the entire top layer of the CD. I am skeptical about these since I would figure using blades to scratch off the top layer would create more scratches than it removes. But nevertheless these kits do exsist, though I would never use one on any of my CDs.

ive used something called a disc doctor, which works great on little scratches but cannot do deep scratches. and all of them only work on the data side, nothing does anything to the label side.

there are many cd cleaner out there, try checking evry comp. store if there is. But if there are too many sratch and some of those scratch are deep and your CD cannot detect it, then you have to replace it...

If the label side is defective, all those repair kits are a waste of money. You can polish a scratch on the data side (which is only transparent plastic) but a scratch on the label side means that data carrier layer is damaged, so all you can do is use special programs that read the remaining data.

well I suggest if your CD ROM still reads it and there is enough space in your HD, then make an ISO so that it will be stored in your PC.

Regarding the repair kit, I bought a CD cleaner because you can use it not just for PC CD but also audio CD and VCD.

Ive used one of those " liquid repairer " things, and I still use it sometimes. Mine works for small scratches, the scratch remains but the cd just runs like normal. Dont really know why . Its worth it if you have lots of scratched discs. I got mine for about $4.

CD's are only run through optic laser lighting... so this liquid might just reroute the light to on top of its location...or something?

I have a GameDoctor and I swear by it. It's amazing what it can do to CDs which I previously would've presumed dead. It's not just for game CDs, you can also use it for music CDs, CD-ROMs, DVDs, VCDs and literally any other type of optical media that has the same shape and size as a CD/DVD.

it wont help at all cds have holes in them so when the laser points at it... it refects and the laser collects the data the continous spin makes a harmony of data to be process to a file...

so if that holes been badly damaged it will be read as a bad sector...

no chance of reviving...
