Faulty simm sockets

Yes, The ram sockets are faulty.
I have 3 sockets on my Freetech MB.
The main one works.. the third is quite dead and the 2nd is giving me all kinds of probs. Frome having to hit reset 3 - 10 times some the screen will work to a faulty checksum error. Any1 tell me whats wrong?

SIMM? Aren't you talking about DIMM? No board has 3 SIMM sockets, unless you have a really old socket 3 mobo with a 486 on it.

Yes EDO is SIMM's however pentium based processors or their equivalent use a 64 bit address to access memory. Simms are 32 bit hence on such systems they have to be installed in pairs. Hence he couldn't have 3 SIMM sockets unless it was a system that uses 32 bit address's eg a 486.

Uh, throw it away and get a new one? It's not like dimm slots are repairable by do-it-yourselfers.

Well, the way I see it, as long as I can use the first slot without probs, I'll use it.. and if I'm right, then 256mb stick will work and if I want more then that I go to 512mb stick. No sense in spending money if it works alright in at least one socket

If it ain't broke...you know the rest.
But in computers, you should consider buying a new mobo.

hehe socket can't be faulty, the only faulty things I could think of is the soldering for the socket part may not done properly, or other things, check it, if it's not been soldered properly then you can easily fix it hehe,
