connecting psx to pc
is there another way besides the dexDrive to download your memcards to your pc, maybe by somehow connecting your psx to your pc?

If your not afraid of a solder iron you could build yourself a playsaver. the instructions are available at http://members.aol.com/PlaySaver/ Then use psxgameedit which can be obtained from the downloads section.
