GPU hijacks some RAM space too, at least mine does.
Took away a good 1GB lol.

That must be because you have a Quadro? I'm still listed as having the full 8GB, although things that report my GPU's VRAM also report it as having (let me check the exact amount) 3583 (or ~3.5GB) of shared RAM. That's, quite a bit. I'm not sure if this implies the old AGP aperture size thing or whatever, but I never saw it in Windows XP. Is that what you're talking about, or is it actually taking a whole 1GB to itself leaving your system RAM as 7GB?

yeah, the first case.
1 gig RAM lists as in used
and my GPU mem boosts with 1 gig.

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and up no longer makes a copy of video RAM in system RAM or if a Vista SP0 user obtain this update: Virtual address space usage in Windows Vista game development

It is too bad that some tech web sites are trying to say that windows 7 didn't shadow video memory whilst Vista RTM does. Sure it is true but why would they compare it to the RTM version of Vista? Windows 7 Way Smarter With Graphics RAM - Tom's Hardware

Shared memory is the equivalent of AGP Apperture.
