They didn't comply. If that was the case, then why didn't anyone have their GPUs fixed? If that was true, AT LEAST ONE COMPANY WOULD DO THAT. Also, why didn't nVidia push the OEMs to do so? Their reputation is now tarnished because of this. Everyone is weary of nVidia's mainstream ****ty GPUs. Especially when they keep rebadging.

The vendors never issued a recall. thats the problem. Dell knew about the issue and never issued a recall for the simple "excuse" that the products were end of life.

Regardless, Any of the decent brands should have replaced the card with an unaffected card of equal performance. BFG would've replaced it with a card of equal or higher performance.

In the end, it's nVidia fault for making the faulty GPUs in the beginning, nVidia's image has been tarnished and there's no one to blame but them. It's not the OEM's job to keep nVidia's image good and lose money. They've lost a good deal of customers because of this fiasco that could have been avoided in the beginning by making a reliable product.

once the chip is in the vendors hands, all blame and responsibility is on them to ensure the part is working, handle replacements, and issue recalls.

Nothing, unless you count vendors releasing preoverclocked boards and not implementing the correct timings in the bios for those overclocks.

100% of Drivers damaging cards is the card is preoverclocked
100% of drivers causing unexplained crashes on the minority while the majority have no issues are preoverclocked cards.

For an issue that's apparently so big this is the first I have heard of it...and that's with keeping an eye on an actual hardware shop that sells pre-overclocked cards such as the ASUS TOP cards and the XFX XXX cards etc.
In fact I have seen far more AMD RMAs than nVidia issues of any sort over the past year.

Lol figures, the one brand barely sold in this country is the one with all the issues.

Seconded. A customer should always turn to the shop where he bought it, as that's the person he has a sales contract with. Only if it's out of warranty you could be legally referred to the producer of the cards.

That nVidia didn't do a recall is too bad for the customers and certainly no good PR. It's up to individual warranty now for consumers to claim their rights. It's definitely an oversight of nVidia's production as well though, and it's simply a disgusting fact that they ignored it so that the new laptop series have the same problems (9600m series for instance). I can fully understand that this can be a valid reason to avoid future nVidia cards, just as much as driver problems might be a turn off for past ATi customers.

:P not the only thing... BFG has massive issues,
7 month old cards dieing, then having replacement parts sent that are either lower spec, or don't work..... and thats not just the gpu section.

Schumi, i came to a eureka moment on your issue with driver installs not sticking btw.

its potentially a corrupted security catalogue (secedit.db) since this controls the permissions and access to signature verification... this might help

How do I restore security settings to the default settings?

It seems by this point, we almost have a confirmation that Squall has a skull as thick as a 70 years old.

Humor me, how come ATi doesn't have as many problems with factory overclocked GPUs? I've never heard of anyone having problems with a Vapor X.

Because ATI uses driver level profiling to inhibit the full performance of their entire range of HD4xxx series, not to mention has specific profiling for every single vendor within the driver.

Thats not to mention ATI also has a tight lock on exactly which of their card vendors are allowed to overclock, which is illegal since they are basically stifling the market.
