Video cards with TV-out...

I have 3 questions.

1. I'm still planning on upgrading my video card to an ATI Radeon SDR 32MB PCI with TV-out. I play a lot of Snes games on my computer but I'm planning on playing it on my TV when I get my new video card. The card has S-video out so If I use S-Video connection to connect my video card to my TV, would the image quality be good on my tv or ****ty? Anyone that has a video card with TV-out, could you give me your opinion about the picture quality?

2. My CPU's temperature is like 65'C is that safe or is it dangerously high?

3. Should I upgrade to an ATI Radeon SDR 32MB PCI, or a GeForce 2 MX200? I rather get the ATI Radeon because of the TV-out feature, but I'm still thinking about the image quality if I connect it to my T.V.

I think that if you use S-video instead of composite video, the picture quality will be better but I'm not sure since I don't have any TVs with S-video. My geforce 2 MX has TV-out and the quality is pretty good, in my opinion.

Re: Video cards with TV-out...

1. Displaying graphics on a TV monitor usually results in better image quality (compared to monitor), but you might have problems displaying text. It'll be perfect for playing SNES games though.

2. It's rather high. You should try to keep it below 50 celcius at least. Get a better CPU heatsink/fan or put in some case fans.

3. I would trust ATI cards for video-out. They're generally known to have better support for that kind of thing. Plus ATI cards have an overall better image quality compared to Nvidia cards.

Composite video means that it uses normal RCA cables to connect to the TV. For example to connect a psx to your TV you will need to use the RCA cables to connect it to the TV unless you have the thing that uses cable to connect it to your TV(sorry I forgot the name of it).

If your TV has S-Video In and your vid card has S-Video Out then you can plug your computer to your TV. I think S-Video has better (sharper?) quality than Composite video. Since My TV doesn't have S-video in, I can't be sure how the difference of quality is. Can someone post differences between S-Video and Composite plz? Thanx!

Connecting your computer to your TV will make the display more blurry because TVs blur the image. So, one of the only reasons to use Tv-out is to play games on a bigger display. You could use your TV for normal computing but you would have to set the font bigger to see the text clearly and since the font is bigger it will be like using your computer in 640x480 which, in my opinion is way too big.

I have a Radeon64ddr vivo card and the tv output through the s-video is very good.
I use it mainly for playing older emulators like snes/genisis as they look lots better on the tv,allthough pc games look great through it as well.
To be honest after using it I'd never buy a vid card with out the tv out option ever again.
I'd say go for it as you wont be disapointed allthough if you can afford it get a ddr version of that radeon.

I think you have to use the native resolution of your TV.
Mines 800x600 so thats the highest resolution I can use.
I can use higher resolutions but then I have to scroll the picture on the tv which aint practicle.

Thanks for info

Thanks for the details. Now, I'm getting it for sure! I have like 20 SNES rpgs on my computer I really wanted to play but never did because I thought playing SNES games on a monitor was awkward. I don't know about you guys but I love playing games on TV rather than a monitor. Feels nice to just sit back on a comfy couch not using a keyboard and instead, playing it with a PSX controller (I'm gonna get that PSX>PC connector). Besides, the video card I'm getting is only going to cost me $99cdn!!

I read good reviews about it

That's right $99cdn. Well, it's actually $149 but there's a $50 mail-in rebate so that's about the same as $99. Full name of the video card is ATI Radeon SDR 32MB PCI with TV-OUT. From the reviews I read, this video card is better than the GeForce 2 MX200. I've decided to buy this one because the GeForce 2 MX200 doesn't have TV-OUT. Those are the only two type of cards I can choose from since my computer doesn't even have an AGP slot. Besides, I'm not really into playing those 3D intensive games. I usually play stragegy games and those games ran fine on my integrated graphic card. I just hate it because it's having trouble running GTA 2, Black and White, and Fifa 2001! The frame rate I get out of those games is like 20 fps! I doubt I can get the card running at full capabilities because of my CPU but that don't bother me. It should be able to run those games at descent speed, and that's all I care about, that and the TV-OUT feature.

Here's the website. It has a list of all the features this card have.

Jomama2001, seriouly think about an oem radeon 7500. it will wipe the floor with the card your looking at and it will only run about $100 USD. Just make sure you get one with the video out.

I was gonna....

There was a time when I wanted to get the ATI Radeon 7500 ($249cdn). Unfortunately, there's no PCI version so that card is out of the question since mobo doesn't even have an AGP slot. That's why I only have two choices. Either the ATI Radeon SDR 32MB PCI or the GeForce 2 MX200 PCI.
