Blast-off to 4.0 GHz!

Here is my overclocked E8400@ 4.0 GHz using Arctic Freezer 7. However I`ve had to set the RAM multiplier to 2.0 and the CAS# latency to 5-5-5-15 for full stability. VCORE is set to 1.40000 and RAM voltage is+2.0. Doing this I`ve gained a full speed for TEKKEN 4 and TEKKEN 5 on PCSX2 emulator while these games used to run at 30 fps when E8400 was @ 3.0 GHz and about 45 fps when @ 3.6 GHz. Now it`s a full speed Guess I`ll have to say "CHEERS" to INTEL.

P.S. Temperature at full load about 60 degrees by Celsius.

I have to recommend you that CPU. It can be found around 180$ and with Arctic Freezer 7 ~ 20$ it makes a clocked CPU ~200$ max, which is nothing compared to the expensive over 400$ quads. The mobo is GIGABYTE GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Overview - GA-P35-DS3R (rev. 2.1) , which is no more than 100$ now. However, I`ve found that you can build a powerhorse PC for less than even 600$!!!

I dunno about the prices where you live, but (almost) everywhere else, a Q6600 costs only marginally more then a E8400 does. Its the buyer's pick basically, if your main aim is full speed PS2 emulation, then an OCed E8400 is much better, if you want acceptable emulation and concentrate more on future-proofing and multi-tasking, a Q6600 is better since more and more apps are starting to support 4 cores. For normal PC gaming, both will perform superbly, but a Q6600 will be better if the game can utilize all 4 cores and will work with an ATI HD48xx better. Otherwise, both chips are excellent overclockers.

60c acceptable, 65c is pushing it and nearing 70c is asking for trouble.

Well, then you can kiss this laptop goodbye?

Cyberpower Extreme M1 E0 Quad - XtremeSystems Forums

Idle at 60C! Loading at 65C~. And also for the record, some Macbooks run at such temperatures, too.

...makes you wonder why your computers keep on crapping out on you even when you don't do nothing, eh?

which is why most laptop bios's are hard coded to underclock when peak temp is reached,

Because his graphics card is better than yours? And E7200 is slower than E8400.

And yeah Squall. Some laptops do that. But the reality is that they still run insanely hot.

Careful... not to put it on top of your lap, otherwise you may burn something...

hi why does graphic card matter with tekken 5? the cpu reading on gsdx says usage is below 50 percent, check out the screenshot. do you know what you're talking about?

im not sure what graphic card he has, but i am sure it cant be significantly faster than my 9600gt, at least in pcsx2 anyway.

i can imagine getting 60fps only if frameskip is enabled. but that's not a really fair claim.

do you get 60fps without frameskip in tekken5?

Let me find the Tekken 5 DVD... I have the case here but the disk is elsewhere...
Will get back to you with an answer in an hour, hopefully.

P.S.: E7200 is much slower than E8400, by the way. Or at least... it's much slower in some games.

Nice, but now try lowering the voltage. You shouldn't need 1.4V for 4GHz. I get 4.05GHz with something like 1.28V (set to 1.3V in the BIOS). You should at least be able to take it down to 1.35V (according to the BIOS).

Okay... tested. 40fps normal. About 50-ish if I use VU skip. Frameskipping doesn't work as nicely as it should. But VU Skip doesn't show anything glitchy, anyway.

Just for lulz: 23fps in software mode.
