They have dominance in both but more d3d than opengl. OpenGL has been hobbled by politics and infighting.

Ungh, other way around. It's OpenGL that nVidia is known for being strong in, not Direct3D. nVidia has traditionally had strong showings in OpenGL, and while it's not true anymore (they trade blows), ATi has traditionally had the advantage in Direct3D. This was especially the case in the old Radeon 9x00 and GeForce FX days. Likewise, ATi has attempted to pick up it's OpenGL support.

There ain't much point in this discussion. You carefully study your options and then go for the best thing you're able to squeeze into your budget, it's as simple as that. When the official benchmarks showed that the Geforce 8800GTX was so far ahead of anything ATI coud've put on the table, I went with the 8800GTX. When those same benchmarks showed that the only way a Geforce GTX280 could win against a Radeon HD4870X2 was if you added another GTX280, I went for the HD4870X2. When Nvidia releases the GTX3xx series and ATI releases it's HD58xx series we will see which of the two has the most bang for the buck. So you see, fans on both sides are just wasting time and energy trying endlessly to come up with new ways to discredit their counterparts.

I'm an ordinary guy, and so far I can't say that I regreted any purchase I've made, so I believe that this line of thinking might save a lot of people money and headaches.

9800 GTX+OC owns the road...at least for price and performance.... Can do Crysis decently and PCSX2 Emulation...... All ATI has that it can offer is GDDR5..... Besides, looks like Nvidia is winning.....

All GDDR5 has going for it is the ability to use higher clocks. Eve then the clocks need to be 2.5x that of DDR3 to reach the same level of performance from DDR3 on a 512bit bus.

GDDR5 is a selling gimmick, nothing more

GDDR5 is fine, but you don't start to begin to start to see it unless you buy ATI's Two Highest Models.... (4870 & 4870X2 ) Now if they had bothered to put it on the Radeon 4850 or the 4830, THEN it might own the 9800 GTX, and the 9800 GTX+, but otherwise forget it... Ain't gonna happen...

A 4850 will never "own" a 9800gtx....they are rather equal
