![]() And the 4870 is even worse... it starts sounding like waves at sea when the fan is at 40%, but it runs relatively cool compared to 4850.

I find that hard to believe, I got 15 fps on Bully with my old P4, it was only a: Compaq Evo D510C with: 2.53 GHz Northwood P4 512 MB RAM Inno3D GeForce FX 5500 (256 MB) @ stock I never tried playing FFX, but I think I would have got 20 fps or more with it. Speaking of games, check your game against the compatibility list on the website, if its rated as 'Intro' or 'menus', then no PC in the world can help with that! Also, check your configuration and make sure it is correct.

This is to scare Phil. ;p ![]() That was all stock, my friend. Now I wonder what would happen if I... put on an Accelero S1, two 100CFM fans, and... mmm... maybe up the voltage a bit?

Tough luck? Cuz I'm using the eMachines case. ;p But I think I'm backing the Q9450 down to 3.2GHz, and... I'll be waiting for when someone may want to buy it... or do a trade. Probably... a E8400 plus $120, or E8500 plus $100, or the Q9450 for $250. ;pP.S.: Just goes to show you how cool this HD4870 runs, eh?

ATI for me, i love my 8800m gts laptop for games but for a price to preformace comparison the 4870 seems to blow away the gtx 280. at this given time i would estimate that drivers are only utilizing 75% of the 4870. not only that but ati support 4 card crossfire. even tho id never use 4 cards, if i was to build an insane gaming rigs for brags i would go ati. besides amds spider platform gets ddr3 speeds out of ddr2 and amd quad cors for 200 bux vs intels 1k$

Anyhow, on topic, I'm going to say ATi this time around. However, I'm still satisfied with my 8800GT, and the jump wouldn't be big enough, so I'll pass this round. There's another reason too. Noise and temperatures are something I look more at rather than just performance and price. The specific 8800GT I have has an aftermarket cooler by default, so it runs both cool and quiet (as in, silent idle or load and never above ~60C), and I've sort of become addicted in looking for both in video cards now. The ATI cards seem good and cheap, but run loud and/or hot, or so I hear. My old 8600GTS has a fan that runs full speed all the time (also an aftermarket one by default from MSI), and it's unbearably loud.

Yeah... and on another note, seems like the only real benefit of having PCI-E 2.0 for this card thus far... is just to have AA 8x with very minimal performance hit.

It depends on the GPU, but normally... loading at 80C is acceptable. Though we won't need to tell you that you'll need better cooling for other components. For instance... the HD4870 is making my CPU idle at 55C (no joke), but on maximum load, the CPU does not exceed 65C, which is perfectly acceptable.

Better is an understatement? ![]() Windows Server 2008 w/ Crysis Vanilla (1.00) 1280 x 1024 DX10 all High no AA no AF ![]() Broke 60fps!! Averaging at at least 45fps, and at most 50fps! P.S.: Seems like Crysis is finally playable under Server 2008. Kudos to Microsoft for finally doing it right!!![]() CPU bench results. That's just plainly amazing.
