CPU's for my crappy comp....
Well I was just wondering if its wise to upgrade my PC's cpu or not.
I have a motherboard that supports Socket 754 (I know crap), and I already have a Amd Sempron 64 1.8 Ghz 3100+ and I was wondering if I could support more then that. I did some research and found a Socket 754 Amd Athlon 2.2 ghz. Really, its probably not a bright idea to upgrade this thing, I found the best video card I could get for this already and it isnt that great considering what you guys have (My Card: GeForce 7600 GT). My PC is wide open because the power supply the card needed doesn't fit in my PC haha. The reason I am asking this is because my PC seams to be having some speed issues. I believe the Cpu is bottlenecking it. Oh and I'm trying to push this thing to its limits without having to replace everything with new parts, and for that I don't have enough money for as of right now(well the motherboard mainly, I'm getting everything else that it can take). Probably in about a year or two I'll be getting a new PC that I'll customize from scratch, but I'm gonna hold on to this as long as I can. |

That was fast, well if I were to get that, I know I would expect WAY better perfomance. If I get the money, I might do that, but then theres the possibiity that the RAM I have won't be compatible with the motherboard. But anyway, so would it be better to upgrade it, then customizing a whole new PC? I do see that it could be a waste of money getting a whole new pc with and OS and all as opposed to just upgrading key parts of the pc without replacing the HD, GFX card, SFX card, and etc.
I think I'm gonna stick with this Pc and just keep upgrading off of it, I might need a new case since I don't like the powersupply sticking out of the pc like this lol. |

PC3200 is DDR.
![]() Anyway, keep the system. Work your way towards $200, and then you can upgrade. Right now, upgrading won't be wise.

I blame Fry's for listing the QX9775 as a LGA775 chip. LOL
But seriously, it was mostly because I was torturing myself for breaking up with my girlfriend.

Believe what you might.
And... I think this thread is done for. lol (why is it that whenever I go into a hardware thread, it's always done for very shortly?)

To the TC.
Leave the PC as is and save up for a whole new PC...you would end up having to replace everything (and yes I mean EVERYTHING) anyways.
